He is still in the awaiting approval group, although for some reason he could post.

Oh right, that was the thing I fixed last week. Why is he still in the Awaiting confirmation usergroup?

Agreed, totally. Just because particular events happened elsewhere doesn't preclude fallout here.

Case in point? K1A being a dumbass and posting his picture with his name on it over at TBBS. We'll protect his privacy when he himself fucks up off-site, but when a WF member dicks over another WF member in just about the worst possible manner, well, fuck, that went down over yonder, can't touch that.

We want to protect our members? Fine. We want to keep other-board shenanigans away from here? Fine. But those are, at times, going to contradict each other, and frankly, I'd rather not have a member around who apparently has no qualms about letting some personal BS interfere with someone's real life, than protecting some persecution complex stemming from an event that occurred five years ago.

Okay, after gathering the evidence and talking to my sources, I've put a picture together of what happened.

This happened almost three months ago, long before Squiggy joined Wordforge. It was handled as an internal matter by the administration at TrekBBS and punishment was doled out accordingly.

After posting what he does, his location, and his job title, SquiggyFM invites people to call his boss.

If you use the search function at TrekBBS, and punch in the terms, it shows that Squiggy doesn't know when to shut up.

He talks about where he likes to eat around the NASA campus.
He talks about meeting dignitaries and what spots he's produced.
He talks about his job, duties, and location at length.

Over, and over, and over, and over.

Including listing his employer, picture, and Facebook page (containing his real name) in his TrekBBS profile.

And, while I think this was an utterly dispicable thing to do, I almost have a hard time feeling sympathy for him when he's threatened to do the same thing (or worse) to other TrekBBS members he dislikes. In fact, he was banned for sharing private information specifically aimed at running a member off the board and then the ban was extended because he created a dual to get around the original ban.

Again, and for the record. I think this is a horrible thing to do. I think it's taking internet relations far, far beyond the realm of reason by BOTH SIDES. I think whomever did it should be publically shamed and shunned if their identity ever becomes known and that this person should never be trusted by anyone ever again.

But, the only connection this has to Wordforge is that it happens to involve two of our members and one was not a member when the offense took place.

Apples and oranges. In your example a member posted another member's RL name here on Wordforge. Doesn't matter how the information was obtained.

Of course if the Wordforge member had posted that info here then it would be fair game.

Elwood's info reinforces my intial take on this. It's not a matter for us to pursue. Should either of them pull the same thing here, then they get the boot, but as it stands I don't see any justification for us to do anything.

3 months ago? And squiggy wasn't a member then?

    Screw it, not our problem.

    Christ.

I wish The Confesser had made it clear it was three months ago and frankly, didn't bother confessing it to me to begin with. :jayzus:

Elwood...still the Big Damn Hero...thanks babe! :mrsa:

Though...Tech guys...why can someone awaiting confirmation post?

The K1A Situation: WF member plays fast and loose with WF member's personal life.
This Situation: WF member plays fast and loose with WF member's personal life (at least, with the knowledge I had at the time, this has obviously changed somewhat).

We kind of lucked out on this one because the guy wasn't a member when it happened, and it's been three months down the line. Definitely not actionable.

Do you honestly think good things would come about if the situation were to happen again tomorrow? Everyone would happily say, "Oh, well, we're not responsible for stuff outside of WF?"

Don't think that'd be likely to happen. We can start getting more and more technical about what is actionable, or we can say "Don't be a dick with people's real lives." Sure, could be 'unfair' on both sides. But I think the latter is more in the spirit of WF.

And hell, we ultimately banned Polarslam for, surprise, being a dick outside of WF, and rightfully so.

People who'd call someone's place of business to rat them out over a pissing match on the internet really aren't people we want to be part of the community.

    Right?

Mostly, yeah. But like everything else to do with rules, it's a judgement call each time.

    Wrong.

The K1A Situation: WF member posts another WF members personal info, said info had not been posted on WF.
This Situation: TBBS member posts their personal info on TBBS. Another TBBS member uses the info to contact the original members supervisor.

For all I know it happens everyday on TBBS.

We do not and cannot moderate TBBS.

I've long argued for allowing members their privacy because we as staff cannot insure it.

You've just gone from comparing apples to oranges, to comparing apples to sombreros. Polarslam was banned many times for many reasons.

Everyone has agreed it was a shitty thing to do.

Polarslam was banned for actions here.

He earned his eighth ban and 49 warnings...enough was enough.

I have no idea what you are referring to about off-board Polarslam activities.

Wasn't it Polarslam who pulled that shit with the guestbook of the girl who died, claimed to be Elwood, and posted 'on behalf' of WF?

If not, then just fill in whoever did that rather than Polarslam.
