Six Degrees of Separation from Celebs - Wordforge Edition

They say everyone is separated from everyone else by six degrees of separation. Just wondering what celebrities you guys might be associated with. For me, I have quite a few, some of them only 4 degrees of separation away from.

For me, they are:

Kristen Kreuk
My best friend has this gay black friend she always used to hang around with and go shoes shopping together. He lives in the same apartments as Michael Rosenbaum, and talks to Michael quite often. Michael, as you know, is Lex, who is making out with Kristen on the show. Lucky bastard.

Grace Park
My good friend's sister is best friends with this other girl who's husband and Grace Park's husband are good friends. (I think his name is Phil) That would make my connection with Grace Park a whole 6 degrees.

Jacky Cheung (the Hong Kong singer)
An associate of mine is this guy's nephew. Every time Jacky's tour stops in Vancouver, he always wants me to come out and meet his cool uncle. I haven't yet, since I am not a huge fan of his.

Jacky Chan
He was at a party my god-uncle threw when he was filming Shanghai Noon in and around Calgary. Not sure if he knew my uncle personally, or if it was someone else that brought him. You guys would be surprised at the amount of connections Jacky Chan has with the Hong Kong triads.

Paul Brandt
He is a Canadian country singer, who, to my knowledge, is also famous in the US. I went to Sunday School with him when we were younger. He attended my baby sister's 1st birthday, so I have a picture of him when he was only like 5 or 6 years old. His grandparents go to my parent's church. His real last name is not Brandt, but that is just a stage name. His real last name is some Ukrainian name like Beblovsky or something.

As One
They are an R&B duo who are famous in Korea. I email Min Yi quite often, and they even mentioned me in their album thank-you's because I sent them a box of Wonderbar chocolate bars they can't get in the US or Korea. Because of them, I am probably less than 2 or 3 degrees of separation from just about every Korean celebrity.

George W. Bush
My friend's husband's brother is friends with one of the guys who's on the sniper team who protects George W. Bush during certain times. I dunno if knows George Bush personally, but he probably knows someone who's in charge of security who directly works with the President.

Dany Heatley
NHL Hockey player, playing for the Ottawa Senators. One of my good friends is friends with him. Dany was strewn out on the floor of my friend's basement, crashing there one night after a wild party. This was during his draft year too!

I'm sure I am forgetting quite a few, but for now, let's hear yours.

David Letterman showed my photo on his show in the fall of 2003 and read a letter I wrote to him! I still have the letter of thanks he sent me.

Well, take away the internet and I got pretty much nothing that I am aware of.

I have a photograph of myself in my dress blues with Dan Akroyd, Miss Apple Blossom, and about 30 other 2nd Lts. Somewhere, there is a photo of me with Irline Mandrell from the same event. It was funny--we got our picture taken with Dan Akroyd. Irline Mandrell got HER picture taken with some young, handsome Marines.

Oh, and I met Linus Torvalds. If I were a better liar I'd say I played pool with him. But I just watched him play pool with someone else before chatting briefly with him.

My Aunt dated David Copperfield (then known as Kotkin) in High School.

Hmmm... QP's uncle is the Black guy beside Aaron Douglas in X2 when Magneto pulls the grenade pins. That leaves one or two steps to BSG and Firefly because of Nikki Clyne and Jewel Staite both guesting on Dead like Me.

A buddy of mine's family cottage is on the same lake as Donald Sutherland's.

A few friends dated Nicole deBoer back when she was doing crap like Forever Knight. A roomie back in 89/90ish was with Amanda Stepko from DeGrassi High=>Kevin Smith.

My top boss here has claims to Jim Morrison, Janice Joplin, Hendrix... Her friend that stops by occasionally contributed to the jams that led to "White Rabbit".

Housemates back when played with the Wailers. Michelle took off on the road with them as a back up singer.

I've done extra work with Adrian Paul, Margot Kidder, Mr. T, Meredith Birney, David Spade, and Cheryl Ladd. Jeremy Piven had good hash...

One of my husband's grad school professors was Bernard Barrow, a.k.a. "Johnny Ryan" of Ryan's Hope, the soap that started Kate Mulgrew's career.

And I swear that circa 1970 I had an encounter with Frank Serpico under his street name, Paco.

I was within 2 feet of Ally Sheedy once when the filmed a scene for "Heart of Dixie" in our local courthouse.

I met and chatted with Jerry Clower when I was a teenager but so did a few hundred other people he signed autographs for.

I have a good friend who's a local bluegrass musician (we worked at the same radio station 12 or 13 years ago) who in turn was good friends with Bill Monroe.

I was once at a Christian singles mixer (about 1987 or so) with the Rev. Don Wildom's daughter (hot little brunette)

I have a good friend on another BBS who is an aspiring actor. He just appeared and and co-produced an Indy film which featured Tom Hanks' brother and Hanks financed a big time premiere and my friend met and chatted with Tom at the premiere.

My boss once went to an exclusive breakfast with President Bush, got to talk to him, see, her father in law served with Laura Bush's father, and they had a veteran's breakfast.

recently found out that my uncle's son is friends with Tony Romo... aside from that i really don't have anything.

Seeing as I know some local politicians and sportspeople, there are too many to name. I have virtually every world figure in four steps.

Mm, yeah, I'm not even counting work-related stuff.

Let's see, my connections with fame:

When I was eight, Burt Ward signed the cape of my Robin doll, er, action figure.

I attended a charity screening of 'The Phantom Menace' and came within arm's reach of George Lucas.

I saw Dave Prowse (the guy in the Darth Vader costume) a couple of times!

I saw Jerry Rice (longtime 49er, NFL legend) at Vic's Cafe in San Carlos having breakfast with his wife.

I was in the audience when Gene Roddenberry spoke at a Star Trek convention (around the time of TMP).

That's about it.

My older brother has had some interesting encounters with celebrities:

He was dating a lady who did the makeup for 'My So-Called Life,' so he got to meet Claire Danes and the rest of the cast. (In a surreal episode, she also took him on a tour of Larry Hagman's house when Larry apparently wasn't there. )

He was on a field trip to Sacramento when Reagan was governor and, while trying to take a picture of Reagan for the school newspaper, had trouble with his camera. Reagan stopped and waited for him to take the picture. (Reagan later spoke at my brother's high school graduation.)

He was riding on an elevator once and got to talking to people who turned out to be the band for singer Tom Jones and he spent the evening hanging out with them.

Having had a friend who published a horror/sci fi movie magazine, I can claim one degree of separation from everyone he became friends with, like:

I've known Bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley most of my life. Met Bill Monroe many times, and met Ricky Skaggs once, among other Bluegrass stars.

Well, in that case...Carl Sagan, Norman Mailer and I had the same literary agent.

And I've "met" a slew of people through my transcript/proofing jobs - Divine (eight years after his death), John Waters, Odetta, Pervez Mushareff, Sergey Brin (co-founder of Google), slews of corporate CEO/CFOs.

When he was in college, Brin made up a list of his favorite books. Coupla mine were on there. Now if I could just figure out a way to capitalize on that...

Plus, you know a nice Romulan.

Which puts you one degree from everybody he met in that episode.

I asked Henry Kissinger where the toilet was once. It was the only civil thing I could think to say to him.

Not to mention everyone else he's worked with. Oh, the stories I could tell, but I can't.

- my wife sat one seat behind Jerry Seinfeld on a plane, during his "up-n-coming young comedian, HBO-special, pre-TV-show" days.
- my wife also shared a plane ride with Mike Rutherford (of Genesis and Mike & the Mechanics fame)
- I sat across from Hockey coach "Iron" Mike Keenan in the Atlanta airport once, shared a plane trip back to St. Louis.
- My wife's uncle is CFO of a nursing home where Baseball Hall-of-Famer Red Schoendienst is one of the owners.
- My Dad played HS baseball with former Montreal Expos 2B Ron Hunt.
- My stockbroker is a former minor league ballplayer who knows a bunch of current MLB players including Curt Schilling.

Almost forgot - my Dad's father was golf buddies with Babe Ruth.
We have an autographed softball.

My sister is good friends with a guy with the best job in the world - he's the manager of Johnny Depp's personal carribean island. Which he almost never visits. I want to know what this guy did in a previous life!

My sister and her husband went down for a two week vacation a while back. Pays to have connections!

My aunt dated the guy that was Jayne Mansfield's driver.

And she bought a book for my son and had it autographed by Jane Seymour.

- She dated him in the late 50s and still owns love letters he sent her! That is very cool as George Harrison was a fox and a mega star.

My grandad --> Patrick Moore, Super Astronomer
- My grandad used to write to and receive letters from Patrick Moore. My grandad loved astronomy. Patrick Moore also left an answerphone message for us to confirm Halle Bopp was visible to the naked eye. Which was nice of him.

My best friend --> Neice of Beryl Reid, Actress (RIP)
- Or so she says.

A work colleague --> Cousin of Luke Pritchard of The Kooks
- Confirmed. He emails her occasionally and she has photos to prove she knows him.
