I want to delete the Smilie Catagory "Flags" from the collection. It's the biggest waste we have at almost 300 smilies that are almost never used. If you are one of the people who use one or more of these icons, I want you to have a chance to save and store them for your continued use before I get rid of them. I believe when you look at the smilies it will be near the bottom just before the holiday catagories start.
I am not saving them for you. Geeze people... Save and store the ones you want or you will lose them.
So, will they disappear from the bottom of my sig? Also, if so, how do I put them back after I save them?
Use a screencapping tool like Skitch to do a crosshair capture. Export it to .jpg format. Upload it to your WF photo album. Use the link in your sig. Example -- I just used Skitch to clip Muad's smileys from his sig:
I do not support this proposal. And certain flags need to be kept in the general smilie population. These, for example: :canada:

If space is an issue, delete them. Otherwise, this is a waste of time because they are one of the few categories of smilies that are not hard to find because they are on a page of their own and the name of whatever flag you might want is not hard to figure out since it is just the name of the country. What we need is a way to put some logical order into the smilies so we can find the ones we want. Unless the number is causing some of the server issues, I do not see what there is to gain by deleting any of them.
While you're at it toss out Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Halloween. Also you can toss about half the big giant ones. The Zombie ones. The Rep Smilies. The Celebration ones. About half the Sign ones. That's pruning......
Personally, I think we should at least save the ones where most of our members come from. USA, Canada, and Great Britain come to mind. Politically important countries like Soviet Russia, Red China, and the US Confederacy also come to mind.
Is it possible for a tech admin to pull up the 50 most used smilies? To me that seems the best idea, save the top 50, then allow each person that wants to to pick one additional one to save. At most we'd end up with what, 80?
Okay, how about this as a starting point: Toss any smilie that hasn't been used in the last 6 months.
What's the point? In 10 years no one adds flags to political threads. A couple folks use them in sigs and that is it. A decade of lack of use is a good indication we don't need them. Yes, we will still have lots of smilies...they are fun...I'm just weeding out and 300 flags is a lot of uselessness.
We can't tell that. And I have no intention of making it a tiny collection. Most people like the variety.
Wouldn't have to burn smileys for firewood if Lanz would just upgrade the fuckin' board. And he doesn't even have to upgrade it himself, posters have volunteered to not just do it, but to pay for it. He can actually sit on his lazy ass as it's DONE for him. WTF?!?! This blows my mind as to why this isn't fucking done by now!
The last 80 page thread we had about this, I made a pretty damned good list, and Async and Nova fine tuned it. Someone dig those posts up.
