So are we panic buying ammo again?

I just got the front sight replaced on my 1911, and figured I'd get some range ammo and take it to the range. Nope. Nobody around here has ANY pistol ammo. I even checked Ammoman.com, and all they have is steel cased Russian ammo. :marathon:

It’s been happening since Spring. Can’t find ammo anywhere, especially in quantity.

Well, I bulked up on rifle ammo anticipating something like this, but I neglected to get any pistol ammo. :( I mean I've got plenty of defensive ammo, but not enough range ammo to make a trip to the range worth taking.

I’ve got plenty of both rifle and 9mm ammo (I usually buy 500 or 1000 rounds at a time) but don’t have much .45 or range ammo in any caliber. I need to source some because I’m supposed to go on my annual dove hunting trip in about a month and we usually target shoot during the day. :marathon:

how is this trolling? Wait YOU are trolling by suggesting that this is a trolling thread! Well played..... but alas this thread is apolitical in nature and appeals to gun enthusiasts in general.

Anyway I don't know if it's "panic buying" or just that the stores are experiencing COVID relating shipping/transportation/manpower issues in the supply chain. But yes, trying to even get .22 rimfire ammo is difficult! That said there is plenty of .22 WMR but that may have been sitting in the stores for quite a while, because it doesn't sell as fast as .22 LR for example. Works out fine for me since I bought a .22 mag cylinder for my .22 revolver and it just arrived Friday and I am going to the range tomorrow. Buying ammo today at Academy Sports I saw a sign saying there were limits on 9 mil, .223 and 5.56 ammo. :chris:

Now slightly off topic but equally strange is the manicotti shortage! Yes pasta enthusiasts - in every store - Publix, Kroger, Food Lion, etc. they have all the usual pasta selections: spaghetti, elbow, lasagna, even tri-color rotini. But nobody is carrying manicotti! Make of that what you will. There's a spot for it reserved on the shelf, so the stores carry it - but not getting it delivered.

 nobody hunts doves with anything but a shotgun unless you are shooting them off your backyard fence with .22 or some crazy thing like that. BTW I never understood dove hunting - not much meat on a dove. Then again not much meat on a quail but I hunted those in Arizona, so who knows?

Oh, actual doves. OK, thought he was talking about anti-2nders.

You shoot doves? what the fuck for?

okay you answered Steve's question so I won't bother to. Dove hunting is semi-popular where I live but I was never interested in it.

Remove the bird's breast meat (the only real meat on the bird), place a sliced jalapeno around it, then wrap that with bacon. Grill until done.

    Very tasty eating.

Lots of people put cream cheese in the jalapeno but I don't bother with it.

Makes sense, there have been record numbers of new gun owners. I saw this coming with covid and stocked up. Even the oddball rounds are in short supply, I was only able to get 40 rounds of .429 DE.

as in actual circuit breakers?
so here's a short list of the shortages affecting me:

    diet cherry 7-up*
    coke zero cherry vanilla *
    SPAM (original, not turkey)
Fairlife brand 1 percent milk **
    manicotti shells
    ammo

    * one store tried to blame this on a COVID spawned aluminum shortage thus limiting the varieties of soda they can distribute, and these are not big sellers. Yet these flavors aren't available in plastic either - sort of a GOTCHA! on that particular store.
** in fairness (no pun intended) Fairlife 1 percent milk may have been tanking prior to any COVID related issues

Was at the gun store a couple weeks back. They allow only a few customers in the store at a time because of social distancing rules, so several people (including me) are standing in line outside. The owner comes out and says:

"If you're here to buy ammo, we're out of 9mm, .45 ACP, .40 S&W, .380,..." and rattled off essentially every common caliber of ammunition. Only @TheBurgerKing would not have been affected. :diacanu:

It's okay. I am very well-stocked, ammunition-wise. Hell, I have ammo that I don't even have guns for.

If the fit hits the shan, you'll just have to make do with .308.

Just today I found out that there's a new gun store/shooting range that opened in my hometown and they make rifle ammo there. Everything from .223 Remington to all the popular hunting calibers and then some. Not very cheap, but they're cranking it out.
