So, who's going to watch the eclipse?

A few hours to go and I see nothing but clouds.

When I'm at, newspaper was expecting up to 240,000 people to show up in the county.

Very, very few clouds here. And the few clouds are thin, and sitting near the horizon.

Turns out no, they're only #5. I only plan to glance a bit.

We're pretty lucky here. It's as clear as it has been in weeks in Nashville. Here's hoping it stays this way.

Only thing, wispy clouds here. A friend of mine who saw a total eclipse in Florida said if it's really humid, you'll see a cloud following the moon and where totality hits, you can expect a flash shower which will quit shortly after totality is over.

My sister lives in Greenville, SC. She's going to watch it. I only will get about 80% visibility, but I"ll check it out.

The eclipse mentioned in the OP i was in betin, belo horizante, brazil and was on my 17th birthday i remember iy well seems like a life time ago.

Didn't really have to, I could have just walked out for a few minutes. I thought it would be polite to mention though. And I wanted to walk into his office wearing Div Brown goggles to freak him out.

Our safety manager tells it like it is. I asked if they had eclipse glasses for employees.
He shook his head and said "We can't encourage employees to fuck off, John. You got a charge number for it?"

Just hit its peak about 5-10 minutes ago, now the moon is slowly moving away. Only about 80% eclipse but still really cool. Looked like a sliver of a crescent moon. It's also noticeably darker...the light level is more muted and reminds me of sunrise right now, even though it's nearly 10:30 am.

The skies cleared enough just before the eclipse happened. I didn't have glasses but I used the old small hole in a card board trick I remembered from the 1989 eclipse to see this much:

The light from the sky did dim a bit, things seemed more grey, but it didn't turn day into night like it does in the totality zone.

Skies started out overcast, then cleared just as it started here. Colors were muted, and now it looks almost normal out there. The smoke from the Santa Clarita fire was a lot eerier. It turned everything orange, and no one expected it to migrate this far SW.
