Clearly, not every use of the word “monkey” is racist. Yet it’s just as clear that some uses of the word are racist. You have to look at the context. All I’ve said about the DeSantis statement is that I’ve never heard anybody use the particular phrase “monkey this up” before.

Wait, wait I've been told over and over that my experiences are just anecdotal and not enough for presenting a view during a debate/discussion.

Because your experiences are anecdotal, you're a part of the majority that doesn't directly experience what many minority groups experience, and so that information must be weighed when you offer it. If you were to live back in the 1960s as a white man, and your response to rampant violence against black people was "well, no one has burned a cross on my front lawn, it's overblown!" how much weight should your statement be given in that context?

Yes, when the only people barking a defense are the racist dogs who heard the whistle and think no one else did, then I have to say it is just an excuse. It was completely directed at a black man, and in context referred to the black man. Let me say it was clearly heard by the black community in his State also. About the only black dude in Florida who might not be offended would be Republican token idiot Adam West. But as the only black man ever to be run off a Florida college campus for being a racist, I would imagine he does not get too much support for his excuses either.

The people who need to hear it to be motivated to go Democrat heard what he said and are angry. Scott was a dick, but he never called the blacks monkeys. Just another example of making America racist again.

Actually, I do believe in this context monkey business is referring to sex. Good of you to avoid context in order to play pretend.

We should trust the excuses of the board's oldest racist over reality? I guess the truth is not the truth because a racist claimed a racist statement is not racist.

How is that Twitler bullshit working for you? I see it is only grouping you with the other racists. Funny how that works.

Ok, so I have @Federal Farmer , @oldfella1962 , @Paladin , and @Dinner . That is a wf racist bingo if I include the free square. Now where is that one footed Arkansas teacher to give me a natural racist royal flush. Most of the time I play cards I don't get a white suit royal flush, but they happen a lot here on wordforge with the apologists making excuses for their Nazi brothers and lovers.

I think the racist apologists have protested a bit too much about racists not using monkey as a reference to blacks. Everyone knows that a relation to simian is a way to refer to someone as sub human and not evolved. We also know that one of the major points of racists is that black people are genetically less evolved and more ape like than whites. These are not new things, and frankly I don't believe any of them that they don't know these things, and pretending they know nothing of racism because they don't use the term monkey for black people only says guilty and liar.

If it truly does not mean something racial go do it at work tomorrow and see how fast zero tolerance hits your ass. Or go downtown and say it to a group of large black teenagers and see how you get along. If it really does not mean anything and you don't come off as racist to others none of that should be a problem according to you sad excuse for racists.

Of course you won't because you know it is racist and it is perceived as racist rightfully so. For all your excuses you know the truth as well as the rest of us.

Which is going to help get the Republican elected. Everyone sees the false outrage from the left on so many issues. It’s so common that it is a joke now.

No one, who isn't a leftist looking for a daily outrage, thinks “monkey this up” is racist especially given the full context of the sentence. Everyone understands it’s a play on monkey wrench which incidentally has nothing to do with actual monkeys. It's an actual tool that goes back to the United Kingdom and later improved on in the United States. You can buy a monkey wrench at Home Depot.

The term monkey wrench and it's variations is widely used throughout the country.

But please leftists..... keep screaming into the wind. It makes it so much easier to win elections. Thanks.

You know what this reminds me of? The time during the 2008 campaign when Obama used the phrase "lipstick on a pig," shortly after Palin had the line about hockey moms. Now that really is a common idiom, even though rightforge pretended not to know it at the time. Oh, the faux-outrage was flowing freely then.

I've never heard "lipstick on a pig" up until one minute ago. I don't remember Obama saying that or any outrage over him saying that. Obviously it was a big thing back then, but I don't keep a diary or have a photographic memory. I never heard "monkey it up" either up until yesterday. That said there are countless phrases/expressions/sayings so nobody has heard them all or understand them all if we did hear them - but assuming an expression is more than it is meant to be is short sighted and childish. It is projecting (often wrongfully) our own beliefs onto the intent of the saying. Could be (and this applies to myself) we need to accept the fact that we can't read minds, and we might just be mistaken when we assume too much.

So are you saying that calling a woman a pig is not as bad as calling a black man a monkey? Or are you trying to say that in both instances they were figures of speech and people shouldn't be pissed off? You can't have it both ways.

It's clear that in both instances the slip was done intentionally to piss off the other side. I also remember Obama's remarks about people in western Pennsylvania clinging to their guns and religion. Clearly a shot at the rural voters who had been supporting Hillary Clinton in the primary. Both Obama and DeSantis knew what they were doing when they made those statements.

I've heard it before but it was a VERY long time ago back when I was serving in the Marine Corps. It was used against anyone who was screwing something up or was known to be a screw up.

Too right; we can't have it both ways. I don't think Obama meant to call Palin a pig, any more than DeSantis meant to call Gillum a monkey. But they are different classes of insult. One is directed at an individual, while the other is directed against an entire race, with all the historical baggage that goes along with it. We all need to be aware of such things, but all the more so for politicians, since the other side is always ready to pounce on the slightest mistake, intentional or not.

When I dismiss something you've said, it's because you've either said something utterly irrelevant to the actual discussion, or you're making assumptions about something you don't understand.

Oh come on, we know the dogs like to bark at whistles, and they sure as he'll jumped all over this one. Just because a lot of racists say a racist thing is not racist only means they know it is racist and think you are so stupid and gullible you will fall for the same lies they do.
