True story: In 2005, when Mark Felt revealed that he had been Woodward and Bernstein's secret source on Watergate, I was in charge of laying out the front page of a small daily newspaper. I swear on all that is holy that I did this in all innocence, and I was just trying to come up with something that would fit nicely above a single column of text ...but try as I might to convince him, the publisher simply would not believe that I wasn't trying to get him in trouble with the church ladies when I wrote the headline "Deep Throat blows his cover." Anyway ... I would love to know which editors left this AP headline as-is, which decided to play it straight, and which just said "fuck it" and went with "tits-up."
