Bob Orci out as director, Edgar Wright possibly in. http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/389701-breaking-bob-orci-removed-from-star-trek-3#/slide/1 (*Crosses fingers* please, please, please...)
Whoa. Well, that's pretty sudden. I'm sure some of the powers-that-be weren't happy handing a big budget effects-heavy franchise picture to a novice director and were just waiting for an excuse.
hope they get a better script in the bargain. Hell, give it to J Michael whatshisname. SOMEBODY who has a passion for the best of the original (It's too much to hope for to ask that the new one would pretend the last two never happened)
Meh. I find myself caring less and less about new Star Trek as the years go by. Voyager, Insurrection, Enterprise, and Nemesis were godawful and killed my interest in Trek. The two Abrams movies were entertaining, shut off your brain, popcorn flicks but never felt like real Star Trek. At this point I can't even get angry about it. I'm sure I'll see a new Star Trek movie in a theatre but it won't feel like an event, and I probably won't be there opening day (like I was for Treks 6-8) I haven't been excited about a new Star Trek since '99 when I saw the Ds9 finale.
Best Trek news in years. That cunt never deserved to be in charge after his disgusting rant at the fans and the debacle that was Into Darkness.
I'm exactly the same. But, as poor as the TNG movies were, I could at least see some attempt to inject them with the spirit of Trek. It's just that Berman & Co had waaaaay overstayed their welcome. But, like you say, these new movies just don't feel like Trek. They are shallow entries designed for the general audience and for fans who came to Trek more for cool ships, action and characters than they did for boldly going.

There may be a link to the original page in one of those articles.
Wow, just read those comments. Fuck that guy. It is apparent that he doesn't know jack shit about Star Trek.
Not just Dayton, myself, and Captain X were among those who didn't like nuTrek. Of course, Dayton's reasons differed greatly from ours in some areas.
I had a dream two days ago that ds9 had been revived on tv in smaller seasons in 2008 and I had just found out about it. Was so excited to binge watch on Netflix.
http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/34973/bob-orci-won-t-direct-star-trek-3 More villain crap, more macguffin crap, more going back to rehashing ST09, fuck you.
That actually has some promise... ..but that's going too far. Let the new crew stand on its own. Leave Shatner (and Nimoy) in the past.
In any other year, but it's the 50th anniversary. You gotta be nostalgic on those big anniversaries. Fuck, if I had the reigns, I'd do all 5 captains. Have Q be the deus ex machina. Once you focus on the character interactions, the audience won't care.
Are you reading the current 'official' comics series? It isn't any good whatsoever, but that's basically the plot.
There is no new guy yet. They'd just like to have Edgar Wright. And if you're asking if Edgar Wright is good...um...are you kidding? "Shaun Of The Dead", "Hot Fuzz", "The World's End".
No, Edgar Wright would have Scotty fall down the engine shaft, get impaled, and go "it really hurts!! ".
