Well, the hiccup there is that the timeline hasn't changed. Spock and Nero entered an alternate universe/timeline through a black hole created by Red Matter. The regular Prime universe still exists.
That's not a half bad idea... for fanfic. But it's box office poison. You need millions of asses in theater seats to make the profit they want with these movies. They can't spend half the movie explaining DS9 to an unknowing audience. I mean, look at ST:ID. They made Khan so that his name could have been Ned Flanders and nothing would have changed. Unfortunately, DS9 is probably out of the question. Nobody saw that show and even fewer remember. We can maybe expect a throwaway reference down the line (like they did with Archer's dog) but that's it.
I agree it will never happen. But it would be interesting! Most likely Elba will play some new character bent on vengeance against someone for some reason.
I could definitely go for that, though I'd prefer they go in a new direction and not refer back to TOS.
I don't mind reference to TOS, but they should pull out something obscure, and flesh it out, like how ENT did an episode on the Axanar species.
just please, no more vengeance for a while. That's as tired as time travel at this point. I'm good with a TOS touchstone, as long as it's kinda obscure as Diacanu said, but I'd rather not just see a straight re-telling of any of those episodes. For example, lets say Elba was playing Kor - I'm down with that, just don't re-do Errand of Mercy.
