And since it's on a pay-service, hopefully there will be a ton of swearing of nudity. "Captain Kirk to the bridge! Captain Kirk to the bridge! Holy shit, we're under attack by goddamn Klingons!" "Fuck that, ensign! Can't you see that I'm balls-deep in this green bitch?" @Dayton3 would be a big fan!
Better have your pause button reflexes honed for this one. Behind the scenes footage. No cast faces, very fast glimpses of uniforms. Looks like they're ignoring "The Cage", and "Where No Man Has Gone Before", and going with a variation of colored TOS suits with metallic JJverse badges, but more chrome polished.
I said nothing about the series in that post. I merely said that I find the appearance of the captain's chair appealing in that shot. It may turn out that when I see a clear picture of it, I don't like it at all, or maybe I'll love it. Either way, that has nothing to do with if I'll like the series or not.
Y'know what? As asshole-ish as Dayton's comment was, I understand his point. Who gives a flying fuck what the captain's chair looks like.
Aw, come on there...it's not like any of us we're having a weeks long debate about the colors of the token hot chick's new catsuit here.
People who like good design. That's who. Remember, the Navy came out and studied the TOS sets while the series was running to see if it offered any advantages over their current bridge designs. The 3.5" floppy was inspired by the plastic computer cards that Spock used in one episode. The flip-phone was inspired by the communicator from Trek. The blue tooth earpiece owes its existence to the one Uhura wore in TOS.
The only one of those that I haven't read interviews with the principals involved was the Navy checking out the bridge lay-out. The original prototypes used for testing purposes of the StarTac phones had the communicator noise when you flipped them open. Motorola didn't want to pay royalties for using the sound, so it was never included in the production version. Qualcomm is currently running an X-Prize for a Tricorder. Trek, of course, isn't alone in influencing technology or design, but that's for another thread.
The bridge story (regarding the U.S. Navy looking at the layout) is the one I heard of first. In David Gerrold large book "The Making of Star Trek" back in the 70s.
You're absolutely right. this series holds the potential to completely revolutionize the way we look at chairs.......
Not if it's a flop, but chairs are big business. Herman-Miller Aeron chairs go for nearly a $1,000 a pop.
What little we're shown in that clip looks pretty good. I'm getting more excited. I didn't think I'd get to watch another Trek series on its first run again. Also, not at all surprised that @Dayton3 apparently dislikes The Simpsons and chairs.
I've never used a Bluetooth device except for ones mounted in vehicles, but I wouldn't be disappointed if I got this for Christmas or my birthday. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/the-wan...t9mmXYNA_j7iZ0fYq6dnIL_Ceqz8IHH8XHRoCZ5Pw_wcB
Really? What exactly did you see? I saw a flash of a uniform, a chair and a half-built television set. This show is going to be awesome!!!1!
