Or, at the very least, the best Star Wars until Episode 7.

I hope they make the enterprise 5 miles long with a teeny tiny warp engine.

It'll be average summer movie fun.

    Re: star trek:into darkness

    Probably.

I expect some great visuals (less lens flare, hopefully), a script on par with any other Trek flick with a few shout outs to fans to make up for oversimplifications, and some actors enjoying the roles they're playing.

Just like the first one, it may not be perfect, but it'll be decent entertainment that reminds me of why ST movies are overall enjoyable.

    Re: star trek:into darkness

Well it depends on the competition. I notice that neither Abramsverse movie has been or is being released into the heart of the summer movie blockbuster season.

At any rate, I've heard that the "brewery engineering set" is being eliminated so at least one of my gripes about the first one will be no more.

    Re: star trek:into darkness

Yet the first one took in, what? ten times the box office of any previous film?

Granted, it may only have returned 3:1 on the investment, but that still out grosses all the other movies combined, IIRC.

I'd say that JJTrek succeeds in expanding the franchise to the interests of a new generation of fans... most importantly, female fans.

It's gonna be total fucking shit. But since this is just my opinon I will keep it to myself and instead am going to go rewrite it.

    With more space battles.

    And lots of segregation.

My understanding is there will be a lot of scenes involving women being slapped. I have a feeling between that and the space battles, at least one person at Wordforge will love it!

Careful, that almost comes across as trolling according to Faceman.

I assume you don't have any intention to troll though? I'm told that if you have no intention then trolling isn't trolling.

Should be fine. I won't be filing a report.

    Re: star trek:into darkness

Since when has box office performance indicated quality?

IIRC, Blade Runner nearly ruined the studio that made it but it was and still is considered an outstanding movie.

I suppose people pay money to see a movie because they think it's going to be shitty? Do you think Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, and Star Trek: Nemesis (the three lowest grossing Trek movies) are under appreciated, quality films?

    No.

But I don't think the Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, or Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, or the two Transformers sequels were quality either yet they all had very good box officer performances.

Did you know that, when 500 clones of the same Vulcan are engaged in one big mind meld, their mental powers are great enough to produce a lens flare that can be seen from several quadrants away?

    Re: star trek:into darkness

I consider "Apollo vs. the Enterprise" to be one of the better "ship vs. surface target" battles in Star Trek.

Certainly the sound effects and the "bridge vibrations" were very well done. As well as the ghostly fade out of Apollo's temple.

    Re: star trek:into darkness

    That's my favorite TOS episode.

As you might recall, it ends with Kirk and Spock on the bridge talking about the resolution (one of their best exchanges ever):

And, shortly thereafter, the ship leaves orbit.

I've always had this sick desire to see mushroom clouds erupting all over the surface of the planet as it does.

^ Maybe Anon 7 willl be the villain of STID? Maybe that's WHO Benedict Cumberpatch is playing? I hope NOT. That'd be ... odd!

Gary Mitchell being the villain (allegedly?) is, seems to me to be an extreme reimaging & revisioning of the character, if not outright character assassination. GM wasn't really an evil bad guy in WNMHGB. He had a bad incident happen to him (and Dr Dehner).

It's comparable to the caliber of ground combat effects used by the flying vomit in operation: annihilate!
