Back when Star Trek '09 came out and people were shitting their pants over Trek being "ruined forever," I said it takes pop filler bringing in the cash that brings in new fans, new blood and proves that Star Trek wasn't dead as a doorknob no matter how hard Enterprise bombed four years earlier. And...well... But seriously, the non spoilery version is this is truly the best of both worlds (no pun intended): a story that goes into why former Admiral Picard walked away from Starfleet that is very much modernized but keeps with the established Trek lore. When going back to rewatch the pilot for TNG, I'd forgotten how completely stiff and standoffish Picard really was in the early days, which is quite a change from the person he is now. Not much of a spoiler, but we actually get to hear Picard speak French for the first time that I can recall. Very accented French, but I thought it was a nice nod to the jokes about Picard's accent being British AF throught the years
This Picard has no connection with the TNG show. Other then the name of course. This Picard is in the Discovery Trek line. So we aren’t getting Picard TNG. We are getting something else. I’m going to watch it later but here’s a review Sounds like it’s going to be a train wreck.
*Scrolls through "Doomcock"'s channel* Yep...predictable as fuck. Anti-new Star Trek in any form. Anti-Doctor Who. Anti-Batwoman. Anti-Disney Star Wars in any form but Mandalorian. Pro- punching-down comedians. Every boring red-pill CHUD talking point turned into video form. No thanks. I can just hit "dumb", on a FF post, and get the same effect. Say, ever notice how every CHUD video has lots of ugly enlarged red and yellow text? What's up with that? Are they trying to make my eyeballs puke?
That was... freaking amazing. Wow. It's not just the character back, it's everything that made the stories about him great back right along with him. And in terms of just great TV, I think about 43 out of those 45 minutes were as nearly perfect as anything I've seen. I almost forgot to breathe.
I probably won't get around to seeing it until the weekend. All I know is: even if I end up not liking the show, it will still provide hours of entertainment in watching the loser haters gnash their teeth.
If someone says a bunch of crap, but gets the weather right, I look for someone who also gets the weather right, and doesn't say all the crap. This "he makes some good points sometime", line doesn't go anywhere with me.
Sometimes you can judge a book by the cover. A video with "Woke wasteland! This is why the comics industry is doomed!", in the thumbnail isn't likely to have the cure for cancer, and a nice brownie recipe inside.
Based on that review, I wouldn’t be surprised if the President of the Federation is an orange alien with a weird hairdo.
You forgot this part: Who the hell are you to contradict someone who hasn't watched the show yet but already passed judgment?!?!? Jeez. Some people.
I'm in! The first episode was amazing. He is Picard, the Picard we know from TNG. The episode clocked in at 45~ minutes, it felt like 5 minutes. There's so much to explore here. Even from the Short Trek: Children of Mars. We saw a character who I'm definitely sure is a Romulan as the School Master/Principal. Romulans seem to have become part of the Federation, to some extent. I liked the scene with the Picard Archive. But there's some stuff that needs more and to be explained. The Romulans have acidic blood now? And the glass tables, why do they always shatter? Make them from transparent aluminium, so they don't shatter. It's like every series had glass tables that shatter, TNG, DS9, Voyager, they all had glass tables that shatter. And apparently, Maddox wasn't a nut.
Scorecard thus far: @Bailey : "very interesting" @K. : "freaking amazing" @ed629 : "amazing" I'm leaning towards giving it a shot.
I haven’t seen a Diacanu review yet. Hopefully he can talk his parents into subscribing to all access for him.
As someone who watched the TNG premiere while in college, allow my green friend to express my feelings about your statement. And lest you get cocky, allow me to quote from someone older and wiser than myself.
Not even close to being a boomer. Most people think that I'm a Millenial, rather than the Gen Xer that I am.
