I've seen Angela Bassett's name thrown around, but I have to admit that I don't really know of any roles of hers off hand that I've seen. I'm more familiar with Rosario Dawson from her roles in Sin City and Alexander. She might make a good captain. Like I said, I just hope it's more along the lines of Kirk or Sisko than Janeway, though, I know Janeway was actually an attempt to do a female Kirk and it was a case of the people in charge having a fundamental misunderstanding of Kirk's character.

 

FYI, Rosario has a long-term contract with Marvel to be Netflix's Nick Fury*.
*(meaning continuity glue between shows).

The best Black Woman actress, if such is the goal, for me out there is Taraji P Henson but unless something happens on Empire...

But I hope they are just going to look for a remarkable actor of either sex and any ethnicity and let that be that. I could think of a great many names of actors I like, not all of whom I'd call remarkable actors but who have some aspect I find appealing. But I don't want them simply choosing the type (gender/ethnicity) first and then trying to cast-to-type

The Voyager list is, much like Anna said, pretty hit-and-miss. I could collate my ratings of them, but, eh, that sounds like effort, and right now, I'm busy reviewing a show in which people make speeches about gazelles. I would, however, point out that Fuller's solo outings with Pushing Daisies and Hannibal were top-notch, so I wonder how much lemonade he was making from lemons on Voyager.

 

FTFY. A good episode of Voyager is like saying that the diarrhea you had tonight was better compared to the previous night, because you only filled one bowl.
