This episode was an improvement over the Enterprise episode with zombie Vulcans. That's not saying much. This was Alien, Predator and Jurassic Park mashed together.
that would follow with the rapid growth-I mean, they go from thumb sized to adolescent in a matter of hours. also explains the anger/aggression if their body is in a constant state of growing, as that'd be painful too.
I was thinking Romulans when the promo trailer for Ep 10 played on the ready room for Ep 9. The clip had a miner being told that they would get automated mining drills or something. And did you notice the comet as well?
"Every season on Star Trek must end with a world ending threat and a giant space battle." Alex Kurtzman, probably.
Late to the party cuz I was two weeks behind, but I was quite fond of La'An's tiddies too Also, that Una/Ortegas nod I was vibing with Una/La'An, but I'm here for this too TBH.
I liked the episode. Hemmer got a good death, although I would have preferred he stayed on as one of the main characters. Curious what they will do with the La'an character. Did the actress choose not to continue with the show or are they going to give her a separate story line? Or is there going to be a time jump between seasons 1 and 2 and she is back on the ship next season? The title of the next episode makes me think Klingons. But Discovery already did that. Maybe Tholians? They've pretty drastically re-imagined the Gorn so maybe the Tholians are next? As far as I know, we have never seen what they look like?
Dude here goes into a lot of detail to confirm that it's Romulans. This looks like it's going to make all the "But what about Arena?" conversations get swept away in a tsunami of "But what about Balance of Terror?!?" arguments. She specifically said she'd be searching for that kids family outside federation space, and The Serene Squall made a big deal about how the Enterprise doesn't normally operate outside federation space, so I'm guessing if she comes back she'll be bringing some new threat or discovery back with her. Though it'd be funny if we never saw her again, and the whole "she's related to Khan" thing was just a misdirection so people wouldn't expect Number One to have the genetic engineering storyline. I wonder if the anti-Trek killjoys are still insisting her existence breaks canon? Do they think there's a deleted scene out there where Pike makes everyone on the bridge explain the full significance of their surname while Spock and Uhura take copious notes for future reference?
She's in Season 2, presumably, because she talked about how fun the guy playing James T. Kirk in Season 2 was to be around during filming.
So... I know I just posted that I can't quite hold SNW to 100% canon, but if this show depicts the Romulan War without revealing what the Romulans actually look like,,, well... I don't know if that will work narratively.
Starfleet: "Finally, we confront the Romulans face-to face! Let's see what you look like... wait, aren't you guys Vulcans? Romulans: "Uh, yes." Starfleet: "Oh, well, have you seen any Romulans around here?" Romulans: "No, but there might be some a few sectors that way." Starfleet: "Okay, thanks." Romulans: "Longevity and prosperity to you." Starfleet: "Isn't it 'live long and prosper'?" Romulans: "I think we know our own catchphrase better than you would."
Much as I love BOT, you just have to take it with a metric ton of salt. It just doesn't seem plausible that in a shooting war no one ever recovered a corpse of any Romulans while salvaging the wreckage of Romulan ships, no spy ever sought information from Romulans or their allies that would depict what Romulans looked like, that Vulcans did not know that Romulans were related to Vulcans, etc.
I don't think this is THE Romulan War. Moreover, Uhura is wearing basically her TOS era look but for the hair so there's possibly some timy-wimey stuff going on here. Also, this: Synopsis: In the season 1 finale, just as Captain Pike thinks he’s figured out how to escape his fate, he’s visited by his future self, who shows him the consequences of his actions. Preview ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Season Finale With Details And Photos For “A Quality of Mercy” – TrekMovie.com Which to me implies not only "this isn't the present" but also a layer of "ghost of Christmas Future" involved here in which maybe none of what we see in the trailer is actually happening.
One of the old Section 31 novels suggested that some humans did discover that Romulans looked like Vulcans, but that they were immediately sworn to secrecy by Starfleet intelligence and then discreetly murdered by Control as soon as possible afterwards. Kirk finding out made it impossible to continue with the coverup, because Kirk and Spock and the Enterprise were too high profile to discreetly eliminate. Makes sense. It could be anything from "Pike handles Balance of Terror differently and war breaks out" to "Wheelchair Pike doesn't provide a good role model for Talosian society and so they try to conquer other species." (garamets Burning Dreams novel ended with the Talosians applying for Federation membership after remodelling their society based on Pikes memories and influence.)
Bruce Horak is going to be the new Jeffrey Combs, and come back in other roles. https://trekmovie.com/2022/07/06/st...roducer-explains-how-bruce-horak-will-return/
In Enterprise they were experimenting with drone ships piloted remotely. That;s one possible way around it.
The problem with this clip is that the BoP ship design is very similar to the one the NX-01 encountered so I'm guessing there's another ship configuration fight ahead of us. Just admit it's an alternate timeline and move on, FFS.
