Ok, who has this? I went to the midnight launch at the closest EB Games. When I got there, there were about 30 people in front of me already. When they finally opened the doors, I was about 30th out of 60 or 70. I am installing it as I type this. Game is registered, computer can run it, (I'm pretty sure) and I am taking most of the day off tomorrow to test this out. Time to Go Go Go!
Be sure to let me know what you think! I've never played it, but I've heard a lot of good things about it.
I'm heading out in a few minutes, but my quick review of it: It is good, but unless you really like playing against your friends and other odd people on battle.net, you will get bored of it. It changes a few things, i.e. takes out a few units, adds some new maps and units, and adds fancy 3d graphics. But it retains the feel and the pace of the original. It's a great game because the original was a great game, but this feels like a major graphics update rather than a true sequel. It's about time they gave the people playing this for years some kind of bone, and it will keep people occupied for many more years. But innovative, it is not. I kinda liken it to the chick you fapped to every night in the 80's who wore the leg warmers and spandex and had the Debbie Gibson haircut. Eventually, you tired of it, and she gots old. But give her some botox injections, tighten her skin, give her a tummy tuck, and give her some more modern clothes as well as a more modern haircut, and you'd be ready to fap to her again at your 15 year reunion. Final Score: A+, because original Starcraft was an A+. It's a good game, just more of the same, but prettier.
I haven't played the commercial release yet (Amazon should be delivering it today), but based on probably ~150 beta games I definitely liked SC1 more. SC2 gets a B from me.
Well, I've never played SC1... The trailer I saw looks awesome!! http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/games/sc2/?v=commercial
Well if you haven't ever played it, then definitely get it. It's one of the most beloved games of all time, and you can't mention real time strategy games without putting Starcraft in the same sentence. Starcraft II has everything people love about the first one, but with better graphics, higher production values, etc.
Can someone please explain to me why they would go to a midnight opening? Stacraft is not worth it. Star Wars was not worth it. NuTrek was not worth it. Harry Potter was not worth it. I just don't understand why people would want to line up in a shop or cinema in the early hours of the mroning just to get something a few hours or days earlier than everyone else.
It's exciting for some people. If you're going with friends, it's fun to hang out for a few hours and talk about common interests. For myself, I went at midnight so I could get a copy. EB Games does run out of preorders, as in the case of one friend who couldn't get a copy of Street Fighter 4 because the shipment came in and they were short about 6 or 7 of them. As for the case of cinema, nowadays, it could mean advertising . If your blog or website has the very first review of a movie, people will go to your site to read about it before word of it spreads to other mainstream media.
Being the father of four, the only quiet time I have to truly indulge in a game is late at night. It's fun. Why knock it just because you don't understand it?
Been playing it for three days now. Really enjoying it. Like Scorp said, it's basically just the first Starcraft with better graphics, some new combat units and enhanced gameplay. My only gripe is the long loading time between missions.
Got it as well, only done a few missions, enjoyable enough so far. Oh and I like the way the medical units say 'Please state the nature of the medical emergency' when you click on them.
Uh, what? Blizzard's line of RTS are arguably the most formulaic ever. But you kids can go play your games, I'm gonna go load up Total Annihilation.
The folks at Blizzard need to be fucked in the arse with a hot fireplace poker. Whoever thought to release Starcraft II with only Terran missions was a moron. (Yeah, yeah... I know there are a few Protoss missions thrown in there as a bone but it still sucks).
So how does the length of this Terran only SCII campaign compare to the entirety of the single player SCI campaign?
The three different missions thing is an Activision idea. It's what happens when studios get bought out. I haven't even touched the 1 player campaign, because I'm bored of this game already. It's a pretty good upgrade to Brood Wars, but it feels too much like the old one, and I played the shit out of the old one. I may give this another shot when they release an expansion pack with Lurkers, Queens, Defilers, etc. but as of now, I'm not playing this very much any more.
Well, I laughed at teh notion that it was a rock paper scissors game. I've played SC1 for years, and I've been beaten like a rented mule with Zerg, Terran, and Protoss. Subsequently, I've beaten a lot of Terran and Protoss like a rented mule with my Zerg.
I played the single player campaign and liked it. The story line is interesting and the achievements add a little bit of replayability. The problem I had with the campaign for SC1 was that it was so damn long that I never really finished it without cheating just to see the rest of the story. That their are decisions to be made directly in the story line (trust this guy or that guy, etc) is pretty neat, too. You can of course go back and do them the other way once you finish the campaign. Haven't gotten into much multiplayer, yet. I can already see how it would be disappointing to anyone who thought it would be revolutionary. Defintely best played with friends while chatting on Ventrillo.
