As I remember it the excuse he gave was that if the planet blew up while it was dialed into Earth then the Earth would blow up as well. Of course given all his actions in the show I'm highly inclined to believe that he was lying his ass off and wanted to get aboard that ship no matter what.
Indeed. It would be like arguing that, if a MEU(SOC) did a non-combatant evacuation operation (NEO), as soon as the first helicopter of civilians landed and some housekeeper said "Civilians should be in charge!" and the ship captain just said "Okey-dokey! "
Only because they decided so. Of the three mentioned - Young, Rush and the IAO lady, I agree. Young is the best of the three. However, that doesn't mean there isn't someone better. Young isn't the most rational character ever - in a movie, tv show or RL. Oh, that's right. and I believe they told him to dial the Alpha or Beta site. Either way, we got the distinct impression Young didn't trust him during the six months they were on the base, so, still ..., letting him near the dialing computer during the evacuation - yes, I know it was chaotic - a bad decision. He didn't know it was a ship, but yes, he completely ignored everyone else to dial that address. Of course, if he hadn't there wouldn't be a show, so ... And, I still think a civilian revolt will add a bit of excitement to an otherwise dull (but still sci-fi) show.
There isn't someone better. No one they've shown on that ship is capable of being the leader or being a better leader then Young. Especially the civilians. A bunch of fat out of shape cry baby scientists and human resources people. That's all they are. Putting one of them in charge would probably have resulted in a military coup just so they could survive.
What has Rush actually done wrong up to now though? He dialed Destiny rather than a human colony with somewhat dubious logic, and framed Young. At the same time though by this point Young was already openly accusing Rush of withholding information and lying about things which were uncertain.
They're getting in a bad habit of giving us ambiguous, anticlimactic resolutions after a lengthy buildup.
So, first half of the season finale. [spoilers] "A pyramid? That takes me back." Some nice touches with Carter and O'Neill, and it was cool seeing an Earth ship again. Looks like their involvement is pretty much done, though. At least for this plot line. Chick leading the Lutian Alliance forces is giving me all kinds of impure thoughts. Where have I seen her before? The last Underworld movie, maybe? O'Neill was right, though. They shoulda vented the atmosphere the moment the bad guys landed in the gate room. It's so obvious that I'm ashamed I didn't figure it out right away, but it's almost certainly that dude who disappeared after they stuck him in the [-]Aurora[/-] control interface chair a couple episodes back who's causing the system malfunctions and fiddling with the forcefields to cook bad guys with radiation. [/spoilers]
Her name is Rhona Mitra and yes, she was in "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" and also in the post-apocalyptic film "Doomsday."
[spoilers] Can't stand Chloe or Eli, honestly. Wouldn't bother me much if they both met their dramatic end in this finale. But no, what's gonna happen is douchebag Eli busting his hump to keep little princess alive, then she'll go running back to Gomer Pyle as soon as she recovers. Boo fucking hoo, poor Eli. Meanwhile, poor Lt. James cant catch a break. [/spoilers]
Col. Young is showing shades of Capt. Archer IMHO. Oh and is the Stargate a secret to Earth's population? I was thinking that it's got to be hard to lose all those men and not have bodies to bury. Not to mention that given the sheer number of people involved in the program now (the gate, the ships) that somehow word should have leaked out.
I really cant get into this show as much as I'd like to. It's like they're trying to make this too much like BSG. Hell Dr Rush reminds me too much of Baltar.
What would be fun is if there were more guys and they descended into a "Lord of the Flies" situation where she was the Queen and the ultimate goal was to get twixt her nethers, lol. Seriously, she seems to have the chops to do a lot more than what she's been given. Besides her physical assets I mean.
Agreed. And if they kill her off, I may just drop the show entirely. I'd like to see her developed into a serious badass.
I liked Stargate SG:1 a great deal. But the Stargate franchise looks a lot like one that simply gets steadily worse the longer it goes on. Robert Carlyle acts like a character who hasn't had a bowel movement since the Clinton administration.
Man oh man, it's hard to believe the first season has already come and gone! I have to say, that I really, really have enjoyed this show. Cooper and Wright really deserve a hardy pat on the back for breaking the mold and taking Stargate somewhere new and interesting. I would say that Universe is on it's way to becoming the DS9 of Stargate. Atlantis was a miserable failure. Unfocused, rambling and flat out goofy. I can't tell you how happy I am that they realized that they couldn't simply slap together another four person team (including the token alien who can't speak in contractions and a wise-cracking team leader) and give them a new galaxy to find a bunch of english-speaking natives in. Yeah, Universe has been bold. This show fucking rocks. I can't even remember the last time I saw blood in Stargate, and last night I was treated to whole pools and misty sprays of it with people getting shot left and right. Stargate needed this new direction after 15 years of essentially the same thing over and over. It's amazing that I've sat through an entire year of this show and I can't think of one eye rolling event. I couldn't even make through the pilot of Atlantis without groaning over the thought of..... space vampires? Good lord. Can't wait for October.
I got my mother into this show when i boughtit on blueray sokar. She's a fan i think her favorite character is doctor rush.
Anyone else get the feeling over the last three episodes that this show is getting very similar in concept to Star Trek: Voyager? I betcha next season the humanfolk and the Aleutian Alliance are stuck on the ship and have to work together...
^The concept of Voyager wasn't that bad -- it was the dogshit execution coupled with some of the very worst actors ever to grace television. After the let down that was Atlantis, I've been very impressed by this show.
Don't get me wrong... I'm really liking SG:U as well. And that's why I said "concept". VOY was a half-decent idea that went horribly horribly wrong.
I first had that thought when I saw the previews for next season. I until that thought was gone. Thanks a fucking lot for bringing it back. Bastard.
No. I just heard Young say that food and water were strictly rationed while they were traveling between galaxies. I didn't hear that on Voyager after the first 4 episodes. And nobody is pissing away the power in the holodeck.
