I like SGU. Some of it, like the incessant playing of music montages, is stupid but overall it's good enough that I'll keep watching it. Now for the episode.....
As long as both sides realize that they don't trust each other, and there are occasional efforts by the Alliance remnants to gain the upper hand, I could deal with it. But given that Young stranded Rush's ass on a planet, I don't see what would stop him from doing the same from the remnants of the alliance.
It executes on a concept that existed long before Star Trek jumped the shark with the shitfest named Voyager. Way back in 1965, there was a little show that was about a ship that was lost and cut off called Lost In Space. There's nothing original about this plot and it certainly didn't start with Voyager. It's all about the execution.
I believe WAB is referring to the "two crews" aspect of Voyager, rather than the "lost in space" bit. Dr. Smith doesn't really count as a second crew.
Either I missed something or the Lucian Alliance is something that goes back to the later seasons of SG-1. If so....anyone want to give me a quick primer on who the hell they are?
Sort of a mobster-esque organization of human scavengers using salvaged and/or captured Goa'ould ships and technology. They have been allies and adversaries to Earth at different times. And yes, later seasons of SG1 are when they first appeared.
It's WAB's fault: "I betcha next season the humanfolk and the Aleutian Alliance are stuck on the ship and have to work together" I just copied it.
I thought that was one of the better season ending cliff hangars I've seen. I've actually enjoyed all three Stargate shows. Actually I thought the worst stargate was SG-1, which was great overall but pretty cruddy in seasons 6-7 where it was just an ongoing joke with RDA winking at the audience. This one in many ways is the most adult of the shows, except for the emo stuff with Chloe, who they should either make useful or vent through the airlock IMO. Hell, there's even ongoing questions which aren't resolved within a 2-3 show arc. I think there's a lot they can build on here. I'll give it a solid A for a first season.
