Next point: "what common sense suggests is reasonable"? Whose common sense? What standard of reasonableness? Could that clause possibly be any more vague and open to arbitrary enforcement?

Listen: I understand that this is a privately owned board, and that those who own it can do any-damn-thing they want to.

But do all of us posters -- not just me -- the absolute minimum of courtesy and be honest.

I can see, plain as day, what you want, and since you posted that fat, juicy globule of corrupt crap, you've demonstrated it by trying and failing to provoke me.

If you want to ban somebody who hasn't broken any rules, that makes you corrupt. I see it. You know I see it. Maybe you don't expect anybody else to be smart enough to see it. Don't know. Don't care.

Here's another consideration: Maybe people are leaving not because of how I've acted but because, coming into the scene without knowing the context you use as a massive rationalization for your own shitty behavior -- while you're an Admin, no less -- they've seen how the Admins behave here, and what the Admins let some posters get away with while punishing other posters for the very same kind of hijinks. Maybe they're saying to themselves, "This guy, he's a freakin' Admin on this board and he goads and goads and goads this one poster until the guy blows up, then blames him for the explosion."

Maybe not. But maybe so.

So, Gul -- make it a rule. You want a "no assholery" rule, right there with ya, buddy. Make it a rule. Enforce it on everybody.

I like the civil stuff better, believe it or not. I'd rather people like Dinner and Chardman and Liet were discouraged from spewing bile-green shit in my direction any chance they get. When are you going to start handing them vacations?

But this thread, frankly, isn't here to change your approach. I'm not that optimistic. This thread is here to stand as protest of a double standard.

And to be fair, the double standard doesn't extend to everyone. Chup has actually mellowed out when he sees mellow; good on him. Some people are like that, they tailor their behavior to the environment. That's what I do, too. Some posters, though, just can't or don't want to. And there's no real reason for it other than that some people here are just bone-deep pieces of shit. They don't even have the excuse of tradition to excuse their behavior; even people who had that excuse, like Tamar and Storm, guess what they did? They got the fuck over it.

But some here cling to that excuse. I feuded with nobody harder or more viciously than Storm and Tamar. If they let it go and you won't? At this point, it's on you.

So Gul, what's it going to be? Are you an administrator of this board who has objectively identified a problematic user behavior and is now adding sanctions against it to the official rules? Or are you a poster with a grudge who happens to have the officially vested ability to pursue that grudge outside the rules?

You know, this dickish posturing may make you feel good now, but when you're banned because of a refusal to amend your childish behavior, I wonder if you'll regret it.

For the record, I don't believe that the admins should engage with your charges of hypocrisy or your internet lawyering.

I wonder if we will see the meltdown continue on facebook after he is banned? He could make more impotant threats of legal action if he isn't unbanned.

Half of the people who have left over the last 12 years left simply because their lives moved on and the bulk of the others left because they were butt hurt that other opinions besides theirs were allowed. Well, my research tactics were part of the problem. Mea culpa on that. But they weren't the entirety of the problem, nor was their effect in driving anybody off the board intended. Kinda feel like I'm being scapegoated on that point, but whaddyagonnado. Anyway, that research has been completed.

But I don't see how threats of arbitrary enforcement of unwritten rules isn't going to likewise discourage people from joining this board. Written rules are fine by me. Rules that are applicable to everybody are fine by me. But this, "Hey, if I get a wild hare up my ass and just happen to feel like it, I'll permaban you" is some dirty pool.
