Police abusing their power of authority isn't a good argument for anything except to try and bust those thugs toward rent-a-cop status.

Fuck that cop and his thug buddies. :storm:

There are no apologists on this board only assholes who want to crucify police for their actions based on flimsy news reports before any facts are out. Assholes who demand innocent until proven guilty, just not for police. Police are guilty until shown innocent.

In case you're wondering you're one of those assholes.

Mark Fiorino is a open carry advocate. Nothing wrong with that but that is why he carrys a audio recorder. He has had encounters with other police in other cities with no problems.

Philly police are asses towards people who open carry and yes that city needs to be sued so it learns the lesson and the cops who drew on him need to be sued personally as well.

Opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one, and you've got a big one :finger:

Actually, I do give cops the benefit of the doubt where it is reasonable to do so. The cases that make the news are more often than not (at least here in Chicago) guilty corrupt cops. We've got a lot of them (comparatively), so they color my views of cops.

Funny thing. This years legislative session one of the bills brought before the senate was the open carry bill. The bill was presented as such and as a campus carry bill. State sponsor Sen Greg Evers and Marion Hammer (past president and political force of nature in Florida) were on record supporting this bill. First the bill is gutted of the campus carry portion under extremely shady circumstances.
Then in committe an amendment was made to strip the open carry provision, but was withdrawn. Then at the very last second once the bill was on the senate floor it was stripped out? Why?
Well there was the efforts of the retail association and The Mouse, Inc.. But there was also testimony from CLEOs and illegal statements from their subordinates against the idea. Sheriff Jim Coates of Pinellas county testified that he would order his deputies to draw down on any one legally open carrying. Media hog Grady Judd made similar statements. Ditto the Hillsborough Sheriffs department. LEAs in general don't like the idea and as it gains momentum there are more and more reports of illegal behavior of LEAs when it comes to this.

So this event doesn't surprise me.

As for LEAs in general, I have a theory. I think that what is going on is that society is in a transition period where more and more folks are becoming aware of their rights. Thanks to the internet more and more folks are becoming aware of the power they hold and the limits placed upon LEOs as well as the abuses executed by a minority. The citizens are employing acts of either civil disobedience, are merely exercising their existing rights, or recording the actions of LEOs that they feel are suspect.

Some LEOs are having a hard time transitioning to this new reality. They are used to being treated with a certain amount of deference and respect and it isn't happening now. They do not like being examined under a microscope. This is creating a lot of friction on both sides. Hell even Massad Ayoob is having a hard time with this. The minority of dirt bags sure as hell don't like to be held accountable. For them that are held accountable I say fuck em. But for every incident in the news of an out of control LEO I can point to 100 LEOs that good and are adjusting.

And in these cases they should be sued and jailed.

Something similar, if less intense, happened in Knoxville a few years ago...except in that case, the dude didn't mean to open carry. He just forgot he was carrying when he went to a Wal-Mart. A cop started harassing him at the entrance, totally unaware that it was perfectly legal.

Dude ended up getting a written letter of apology from the Chief, and a promise that there would be re-training, but the officer in question didn't even get reprimanded.

Once upon a time I didn't think this would be possible- now that I've been carrying for years and am totally comfy with it, I know for a fact it's totally possible.

It's kind of neat when you pull that weapon from an inside-the-waistband holster and the metal has long-since heated up to body temperature. After you've been wearing it a while you sort of forget it's there.

In this case, it started out as a cool day and the guy was wearing a jacket. by the time he went to Wally World, it had warmed up and he took it off and threw it in the car without thinking.

As you say, it's easy to do.

You're going to laugh, but I have nightmares that I try to go through TSA and then remember that I'm carrying.

Well, not nightmares, but bad dreams.

I carry my Sig in a Blackhawk inside-the-waist holster and I don't pay any attention to it either.

I got shanghaied into going to Wal Mart the other day by the wife and kids. I was carrying and had my tactical vest on to help cover the weapon. After we checked out and started out, the greeter commented that my vest looked like I was ready to go hunting or fishing. Speaking of fishing, I think that's what he was doing. I just said, "Oh. no, it's just very functional with all the pockets and adds an extra layer in cool weather." I even flipped the front of the vest open. I guess he was satisfied that I didn't have a shoulder holster and we went on.

Sorry, pal, the gun was in back of me.

It didn't matter anyway. In Tennessee, there is a specific sign that businesses have to post at every entrance to lawfully prevent you from varrying into their store and this Wal Mart doesn't have that sign.

Two tells that someone's probably packing...

A "photographer's" vest, and a fanny pack that's not situated as the name implies.
