Yeah, but as I tried to say when I posted this on fb, how many people know this? We should know about things like the suns magnetic pole flipping, but most people dont. Bringing attention to 'what's actually happening' is a good thing, it briefly takes the place of 'celebrity news', very stupid 'national politics' or any other of the other inane repeated crap we get fed every day. This would be a 'non story' if everyone already knew about it, but most people dont.
This IS a non-story, altho it's of scientific interest. The sun does this on a fairly predictable cycle (the solar max) and it has next to no effect on Earth. Yeah, there might be a CME, but unless that's pointed directly our way, no biggie.
I agree with you in theory, but most treatments of this have been minimally informative and accompanied by alarmist headlines. Scientific information can be presented in a responsible, informative manner, or it can be presented in a way designed to scare up some link clicking. This is rather mundane information, not worthy of much notice, especially if it sounds scary.
As a result of the solar polar reversal, average temperatures are expected to go down by one or two degrees (Celsius) over the next 11 years... Wouldn't that be a kick
Holy shit, you're not just a skeptic of human influenced climate change, but actually throw out the entire idea?
