You know what’s ironic about the gender less term Latinx?

Almost every noun in Spanish is associated with a specific gender.

For example house is la casa - female... pencil is el lapiz- male... and so on.

I work with people who are of Mexican origin... none of them use the term Latinx. And they are all younger, early 20s. The usage is probably even more rare in older generations.

I don’t where the term came from or who actually uses it in conversation.

It means reveling in our differences and the beauty that combining them brings to life - not using them to divide us, sort us into philosophical ghettos, and making us hate each other.

It really does no good to start taking the disappointment of the Bernie wave slowing down and blame black people. It seems to be what the mainstream media wants.

Bernie has a problem with how he says things like an old man waving his finger at people on the lawn. You can say what you want about Joe and his mental troubles and his policies, but he does talk in a more likable way. In a popularity contest that is going to do a lot for him. Not to mention he did stand next to Obama in his elections which does show that his past opposition to black people does not seem to effect him today.

The reality is he will almost certainly start by reversing the Trump executive orders along with doing some little bit about ICE and not building a wall. i really do not expect Biden to start going back to his anti-bussing days. If Bernie is not exciting black people and turning many of them off then that is a problem for the election.

I blame the media myself. They could be telling the truth and Building on Bernie excitement, but they are worried about their tax breaks which Joe will protect. At the end of the day those tax breaks and economic policies are part of the reason it is harder for poor people to build wealth, and they contribute to the financial wall that keeps a certain class of people down. The poor class has a much higher black ratio than the rich people who get more money for their families and themselves. But if you have never seen what those advantages are because your lineage has not had these advantages it is beyond your experience. Tax breaks don't necessarily look like money in your pocket when you don't have the types of investments that benefit your family.

I know what the tax breaks mean because my parents and grandparents have made huge money on land and investments. They worry about how to pass on their wealth to the next generation without losing huge sums to the government. If you do not have a huge portfolio yeilding large amounts of money and land profits in hundreds of thousands then you don't get what it can do for you. when I needed 20 grand to start up my own business my grandparents invested because the investment avoided taxes they had to pay on the interest and dividends they had to face that year. I don't have any school debt because my family hid their money and they look poor on paper. So while I never had school loans I also got more grants than poor people because our family money was not counted towards our wealth because we were able to get over the minimal investment threshold to protect our money from the tax man, and we had family businesses that tied our money up in loss even though we were using those businesses for our family wealth. My grandparents and parents were able to get loans to buy land in westchester and putnam counties in NY which exploded in value.

If you don't have money to begin with you cannot do these things. These things are passed down through families including how to do it. How are poor people really going to know what being the senator from MBNA means to their position in life if they never had enough money and credit to play these games in the first place? This is not just a black thing either. I have tons of white friends from families who could never do these things because they never experienced the middle class. So it is not obvious how Biden keeps the poor poor. If you call people low information voters that just equates to them being stupid rather than the reality they do not experience the affluent troubles and methods. Not only that, but when people in general become wealthy they do not go out and tell poor people how they keep their money.

So we cannot talk about our differences in culture because that would be labelling them. So we should never talk about it but yet appreciate them all at the same time because you hate libruls?

Look, I get it. There is a difference between appreciating someone's difference and talking positively about their culture, and wanting to use nigger to refer to black people because you are a racist and are mad you cannot label people in negative fashion because of your shitty cultural upbringing. This has caused certain white poeople to have a mental breakdown because they do not get that librul people do not want to use racial slurs like they do. That statement of yours has a huge conflict in it, and does not make sense.

Labels happen because of human nature and the need to label some things for the sake of conversation. For instance, if my friends are asking where we should go eat, and I wanted some mexican, I have to say a mexican or latin place. That is labeling, That is not the end of the world. I cannot sit there playing charades because labeling is wrong. You are not five so please grow the fuck up.

Here's a radical idea: if you have Latin friends, ask them what term they would like you to use, then use whatever term in their presence that they suggest. Of course, such terms aren't usually used in the presence of the actual people being referred to, so it seems as if this thread has wandered down a rabbit hole of hand wringing and outrage over...nothing really.

Yeah, it kind of reminds me of the issue over the Washington Redskins thing, where if you ask Native Americans about it, their response is, "We've got a whole lotta other bad shit to worry about right now before we ever get to this."

Yeah, using the term Redskins strikes me as in bad taste at best and an expression of bigotry at it's worst, but I'm perfectly willing to let American Indians decide for themselves what's offensive to them.

People have been using the generic term "Latin" for generations; why not keep using that, rather than adding the X to it?
Oooh - maybe Marvel can use it for an new X-Man character!

Oh, I see. It's a "gender neutral" way of saying Latino or Latina.

Eh, Latino works fine unless you're explicitly referring to a female, in which case use Latina.

This can't be too offensive; it's what Spanish itself does.

Latinx is just a term invented to use as a moral superiority weapon against anyone who's not in the SJW club.
