Well, yeah, but that doesn't mean he can't live on in Muad Dib's dreams. Dreams in which he's really drunk, thinks he's nailin' Palin, but wakes up next to Ted. Then after dreaming about the resulting morning quickie, he wakes up for real, crying like a baby.
Ok so you're asking me to step into the shoes of THE almighty being in the entire known multiverse and think like he would? Nope, Aint happenin, no way. Might as well get an amoeba to program a VCR, that would be easier.
If he's asked forgiveness for his sins, Heaven. If I am a just and merciful God(dess) (and I am female, hence the Goddess ), that is what I must do.
Well right now I reckon he hasn't ventured too far from his gravesite... give it a year and he'll be in Sheol. Give it significantly longer and he'll be in Heaven.
My god is Crom. Valor plesases him. Ted Kennedy hasn't any valor. Crom will mock him and cast him away from Valhalla.
I don't see that there's anything to lose by sending everyone to heaven. That is what a benevolent god would do.
Hmmm. Other than the fact that most descriptions of heaven I've heard are worse than Nortk Korea. As Hitchens said.
Just out of curiosity. So according to you a person can do whatever they want on life, kill people, be a drunkard, attempt to destroy the country etc and then by just asking forgiveness be completely absolved and go to heaven?
Define Heaven and Hell, given that there are are ton of different interpretations of the concepts that would change my answer.
In an existence where the living are not allowed to truly know or see the afterlife consequences what is the purpose of punishment beyond vengeance?
"In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return." Sounds more than a bit like your statement. I appreciate the comfort atheism provides, sweet escape into nothingness. No reward, no punishment, a release from suffering, a way out. Takes no great leap of faith either, it seems like common sense, it is a belief system I respect.
So, if Hitler asked for forgiveness right before he swallowed the cyanide capsule and put the gun to his head then he would also be in heaven right beside mother Teresa? (mother Teresa lost her faith in god and not longer believed by the way)
Hopefully he is in hell. When he goes to the bar in hell they serve nothing but water. Water from the lake where Mary Jo died. Then the waitresses can make a sandwich with him in between them. (Google Ted and waitress sandwich) Then when he goes home in hell he can crash his car in the lake and die not from drowning but from asphyxiation. Which is what happened to Mary Joe. She didn't actually drown. She ran out of air in the air pocket.
Actually, in the Abrahamic religions, the purpose of life is to do what is proper and what one is commanded to do (in the bible etc). The afterlife is a reward and/or punishment for what one does in this world. Knowing the consequences of the afterlife, is therefore not relevant. Quite the opposite, what you get in the afterlife is the consequence of how you live your life in this world. The question to PW being that a person cannot just do whatever they want in the world, kill people etc and then just say "sorry" and go to heaven like people who did not do all of those bad things, but led virtuous lives.
