Hey all, we're looking at different forum software. If you're bored today go here and sign up (we have to manually verify accounts, so it might be a couple hours) and play around on the IPB software. See what you like and don't like and post a quick summary here. Some of the problems will likely be preferences we can change, but we just want to get a good headcount of what features are missing and what new features you think are positive.

    Thanks for your help.

EDIT: The demo period is now over.

The very first question is: How do you sign up? It certainly isn't intuitive, or obvious. People need to have an easy and obvious way to do that. If you try to log in, for example, and aren't a member, it should give you the alternative of signing up.

EDIT: Ok, I found it. It's way up on top, in the headings that the eye normally just skips over because they fill the top part of any Windows page. That's not a bad place, but there should be other options as well.

Hmm? It's in the upper right hand corner where it says create account.

I managed it. But it took me a couple of tries to read that stupid security code. I wish there was a way of making something readable, that couldn't be read by spambots...

It fails, but at least its failures are often funny.

...so that precedes even the confirmation email? Just checking. If not, the confirmation email automatism is broken.

Just don't use whatever software they use at Trekweb and the Star Trek Online forums. Both sites are just atrocious, as if they were designed with malice towards the end user.

Interesting. It lets me in as well, then tells me on every page that I don't have permission to view it.

I think that is because he said that they have to manually add everyone.

Ok, I'm in as well, and I've eventually found the threads -- lots of other stuff in the way.

Since you're asking for a wishlist:

-- The threads, core to Wordforge, should be linked to from the main horizontal menu on top.

-- I really like the easy "New Post" feature we have here; it's either not implemented yet over there, or too well hidden for me to find.

...How about the "go to first unread post in thread" function that's the little green arrow over here? Does that still work?

Somebody should grab the following names before it's too late:

    Dayton
    The Lonely Squire
    Lanzman
    Packard

we could save the board a lot of hassles by retiring those identities.

What do you dislike about IPB? Keep in mind that looks can be customized.

What features does Xenforo have that IPB or vB don't?
