They just released a patch today that reduces the required achievements for medic to get the extra weapons. Thank god, some of those medic achievements were really obscure and retarded.

I think this means that I will get the ubersaw finally. Waiting for the patch to download and I'll know for sure.

oh, and I should probably work on the medic ones. :D I think I'm gonna hop on in a minute to play and try to get some more.

The medic achievements are definitely more stupid and contrived than the Pyro ones.
The pyro ones are things that will probably happen during normal play eventually.
The medic ones involve stupid shit like "ubercharge a scout while he kills three people". It just promotes stupid gameplay (like wasting an uber on a scout).

I've got all the weapons for both classes.

    Unlockable Item Ratings:
    Medic:
Blutsauer: better than the default syringe gun by far. The tradeoff is you lose the ability to crit in exchange for getting 3hp healed whenever a syringe hits someone. The blutsauer is better just because you can use it to stay alive while fleeing an enemy.
Kritzkrieg: definitely worse than the default medigun. The tradeoff is that your target gets 100% critical strike for 10 seconds (and you get nothing) rather than you both being invulnerable for 10 seconds. It also charges 10% faster but really the regular medigun is still way better. Theres maybe a situation where a kritzkrieg would be better, but its very very rare.
Ubersaw: better than the regular bonesaw unless you just want to play assault medic. You get a 30% slower attack speed but whenever you hit an enemy, you gain 25% of your ubercharge meter. I'd say its the better option.

    Pyro:
Flare Gun: worse than the default shotgun by far. The flare gun is useful in some situations, where the enemy is turtling, since you get a long range attack. But really, in this situation, its better to change classes anyway usually. Unless you crit, its really just an annoyance that will force them to go heal, rather than something that will get any kills. It also doesnt work underwater, while the shotgun does. If you are like me, you use the axtinguisher, and since the flamethrower doesnt work underwater, the ax becomes shitty, so all you really have there is the shotgun to rely on. The shotgun is kinda too bread-and-butter to trade for a fun novelty like the flare gun.
Backburner: better than the flamethrower in most situations. It gives you 50 more health and 100% crit from the rear. You lose the ability to do the compressed air attack. Except in situations of demo/soldiers spamming/mining the shit out of a choke point, the extra HP and 100% crit from the rear makes the backburner much better. Finally gives pyro a reason to bother attacking a big target like a heavy or soldier.
Axtinguisher: I'm torn on this. You trade half of the axe damage for the ability to have 100% crit chance when the enemy is on fire. Basically its a sure kill if you hit a flaming target with it, but often it seems safer/easier to just continue burning them with your flamethrower if you are close range. It's fun to use on things that other pyros have ignited though. The downside is that I usually only use the axe when I (very rarely) run out of ammo on my flamethrower / shotgun. So, for this case, its much shittier because you just get half damage when you have no way to ignite people. The only other time I use the axe is when I sneak up on someone and I think it will be funnier to do so. It definitely seems easier to chop a guy 1-3 times than flame them and then chop them. Keep in mind that melee attacks already have a very high critrate (i'd guess maybe as high as 40%).

I just noticed this weekend that my computer is very capable of playing the source games, and since my 360 went red ring (@#*$ing piece of $&#!) I think I'll sell my Orange Box for that and buy it on Steam. Considering the amount of fun mods out there, it seems very worth it.

I'd love to get this for PC, but I just don't have the hard drive space. Do any of you play it on PS3? I bought Orange Box recently, and I've been getting a lot of enjoyment from TF2 (and Portal).

Okay, so, there was this awesome custom maps server. Best server I ever played in. It changed into 24/7 2fort. That hurts me. :emo:

Hopefully it's just for the free weekend. I made a post on their forums (raidgaming.com) and I hope they respond. :(

Well, basically because you don't get Valves content updates, or anything from the gaming community.

You have about half of the official maps.

You don't get any player created maps (of which there are hundreds, if not thousands).

You also don't get new class updates (new weapons, new achievements).

You don't get any modded servers to play on.

You don't get the new Arena game type (or maps associated with it).

If missing out on all of that content isn't gimped, then I don't know what is.

I think valve does at least plan to eventually add the new content for 360, but no plans have been announced for the PS3. PS3 development of TF2 has been handed over to EA, so if any updates take place, they will have to do it.

Also, there has been some indication that it may cost extra money for 360 users. Here's Valve's statement:

Actually I don't. I do think PC is the best platform overall, but I certainly still like consoles.

Specifically Halo 1! I admit to that but I have good reason (as far as I am concerned) for that. Halo 3 doesn't need to me hate on it, it's already got enough Halo 2 fanboys for that.

I definitely don't hate console games though. There may be a few specifics though :)

Specifically halo then. I love it even though I play a lot more Team Fortress now. It's all convenience. :D

Well it does sound like I'm missing out on a lot. Though, I'm more of an occasional gamer and I've only just learned the layout of 2fort.

If my hard drive isn't full, or I get another one, by the next free weekend I may give TF2 on PC a try.

I take it it's not very graphics intensive? Could a 6 year old computer handle it?

Of course, somewhere in between will run it quite nicely. If you're just making minimum, it'll work, but not the greatest, I don't think.

It's the source engine, so it scales back pretty well. It can get reasonably demanding on highest settings & high resolution, but at low rez you should be fine.

I can play it on a box that has an old 1.8GHz Athlon 64, 1GB of DDR 800 memory, and an ATI Radeon 9600XT 128MB. The settings are on the lower end but it still runs smoothly. You miss out on a lot of what makes the game look so great, but the play mechanics are still the same (awesome).

X-play's gaming update said the 360 version is going to get a huge update, so it's not a bad one to get.

Yes, Valve is still handling 360 updating. They do, of course, still have to approve every change they do via the console publishers (who, as mentioned before, usually want to charge for everything).

They are "hands off" from the PS3 version though, so someone would have to convince EA to do those updates, and then EA would have to convince the Sony people to allow the updates.

20 bucks more to play on the computer is probably a better option than to wait out EA on that one...Their plate is pretty much full.
