No, but the "hooker hauls ass" angle is definitely plausible. And I'm guessing an actor who's been around the block as many times as him was more creative than just strangling himself to spank it. I'd bet money there was at least one Thai hooker involved in some freaky shit in that hotel room.
You are correct....but as UA said "you've been around the block" and you're in a city knee-deep in hookers. Odds are pretty good anything sexual will involve one. Also.....the Thai officials don't want to be embarrassed by dragging the sex-trade into the investigation. Asian countries are all about "saving face." They simply don't want to look bad. For example, Korea is knee-deep in hookers. But Korea denies they exist, or downplay their numbers because hookers would present a negative image in the eyes of the world. They even have live sex shows run by the Korean Mafia (in conjunction with corrupt law enforcement). They are very, very paranoid about Westerners going, because officially they don't exist (no pornography either), yet every Korean knows where they are.
Thailand is the world's #1 sex tourism destination. In one of my classes back in college we watched some documentary about a hooker there. It was REALLY weird, basically it seemed as if this guy was exposing the horrors of sex tourism, WHILE PARTICIPATING in it (nothing explicit was shown, but the situations were pretty clearly indicating that she had spent the night with the filmmaker).
