FTR, and to gtardo's credit, he seemed to move on from there and us within about 4 months or so. Writing that sentence made me gag harder than the SARS 2.0 I'm currently recovering from, but credit where it's due.

Pretty awesome, thanks for asking. It kicks ass to be running errands and come out of Home Depot to see the goddamn A-Team van sitting in the parking lot. And then realize the keys are in your pocket and pretty soon you get to drive it. I don't get tired of talking with people or watching them take photos of it. So yeah.

I'd ask you about how something from your life is working out, but I really don't know what you're doing with your life.

    Or care. :)

....my first instinct is always to make fun of you, but that's actually pretty great. :clyde:

Good on you for doing something fun and unique, instead of being just another generic nobody with a generic vehicle. :salute:

In all fairness (and the weird detente' moment that seems to be going on here) it is not all sunshine and happiness. It is too tall to fit into a standard 20th century residential garage. So I've got to stick a chock under the door to get it as far open as I can, take down all the antennas (that are on magnetic bases), make sure I've got enough gas in the tank and other ballast like a trailer hitch, tow chain, and motorcycle ramp to weigh down the back end, and still worry about breaking something every time I take it in or out of the garage.

And while the 1988 build means it is basically a metal box with wheels that, if properly maintained and cared for, will last forever, there's plenty of machanical work that needs doing. The wiring harness limps along and I need to stick a new exhaust gas recirculation valve on the engine, and a ton of other things. And the paint looks better in photos than in person. And the gaskets are so old that I don't want to take her out on a rainy day. But this is just Phase 1--enough to get her on the road to use for things that are too big for the Mustang. Eventually I'll go back over all the "good enough" things and when the V6 in her finally dies, she gets a shiny new crate 350 to mate up with her mighty Turbo Hydramatic gearbox, all the dents and dings will get squared out and she'll get a fresh professional coat of paint and be good enough for car shows.

Same day. This picture shows a bit more of the paint/body imperfections. Still...one shop wanted $7,500. The other shop didn't even have a quote--said $10K to get started. This paintjob is, I think, under $1k--and that includes a Harbor Freight compressor, paint gun, hoses, and respirator.

Tbh if I left for five whole years, one of the first things I'd do after checking the front-page threads and who's died since I left would be to see if anyone noticed I was missing
