Okay, I've had time to digest it some more, and....a couple nitpicks come to mind. Not enough Gary Oldman, and Morgan Freeman. Especially Morgan Freeman. His role was a lot meatier in 2. But, eh, there was a lot to cram in, and you couldn't have everything. Can't wait for the DVD so I can have the marathon.
Just saw it. Good, but not as good as the previous ones in the series. I'll probably have more thoughts later, but I wanted to respond to various things in the thread. Apologies in advance for screwing up any spoiler tags. In the Bat-verse, it would seem that Gotham is the world's greatest city and thus it make sense for R'as to have targeted it back in BB, in keeping with the League's having destroyed the greatest cities for millenia when they get too out of control. In DKR:
Someone at DC finally grew a brain!! The Dark Knight Returns comes to Blu-Ray Sept. 25 I wonder if they'll have the balls to do the whole Superman vs. Batman with Ronald Reagan cameos story?
It is often listed as either the greatest or second greatest Batman graphic novel out there and is considered one of the greatest graphic novels of all time. I think Frank Miller is a little over-rated personally but it is a pretty cool comic. You should check it out. It's definitely a different take on Batman.
It is, in fact, quite awesome. I hope the animated version will do it justice, though we'll have a while to wait since what's coming out is only PART ONE.
Just saw it on IMAX. Holy. Shit. That was awesome. First, a shout-out to Hans Zimmer's relentless, driving, percussive score. Massive, massive contrast to the score from TDK, both fitting their respective movies perfectly. Second, the twist at the end, well played because the clues were nicely strung along beforehand, cleverly pointing the wrong way. I didn't care for the over-reliance on New York City (specifically, Manhattan) as being Gotham, especially with Chicago standing in as Gotham in TDK. For whatever reason, Chicago felt like a better 'fit' for Gotham than Manhattan, and it's likely because Manhattan only fits itself; it's impossible to confuse Manhattan for any other place. A better blending of Chicago and New York City would have helped quite a bit. That all said, I had no qualms of NYC architecture being used to represent Gotham. It's the island itself that lent to some problems. Also,
Saw this several days ago, but there was one issue that was nagging me. What ever came of stealing Bruce Wayne's fingerprints? What did the baddies use that for?
Yeah... About that spoilered thingy. From my understanding that thing, as executed, would not have worked.
Actually, much of the movie was filmed in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is famous for its numerous bridges. The football stadium was Heinz Field and the Gotham football team was actually the Pittsburgh Steelers. If you've lived in Pittsburgh, it is all pretty recognizable. A couple of my friends that still live there even got to watch some of the filming. They did shoot scenes in other locations including New Jersey, LA, London, and India...
There was one quite obvious shot of ground zero with the new 1 WTC under construction toward the last half of the film. That one really took me out of it for a second.
This. And another shot panning to the left had the Chrysler Building. Both took me out of the moment.
I also saw a lot of Library Tower (or whatever it's called now) in downtown LA. And then there was where the Bat first appears after the police chase which is also downtown right off the 110.
