Unless you own your own business someone is going to dictate your priorities and tell you when you can/must work. Of course, owning your own business puts you at the mercy of your customers. Yes you can tell customers to fuck off, but you won’t stay in business very long. :spock:

They don't ask. I take all the overtime I can get, because I am a functioning adult who supports himself and prepares for the future, rather than mooching off of my parents and assuming things will just work out when the universe pays the debt it owes me.

No, we were talking punch-out overtime, as in you do it for free, or get fired.
    You'd do that, huh?
    Okay.
Get down with your bad self, criminal.

If you're asking about being forced to work overtime, but not get paid, then that's illegal.

    He says he'd quit.
    That's what that looks like.
I went to the alternate timeline; video recorded it; transcribed the recording.

And that's the scenario you come up with from that exchange? I'd congratulate you on your active imagination, but ..., it's really not that impressive.

    So "no" to free overtime.
    Try reading comprehension sometime.

You don't get to decide what constitutes my "betterment," either. My employer makes the offer. I accept it or I don't. Either way, nobody else's goddamn business. You aren't paying my bills or signing my paychecks. Unless that changes, you can stay the fuck out of it.

We need to invent a time machine to send idiots like UA back to the ole days so they can see what life was like without the minimal business regulations we have now. Like there was any choice for people like him in the early US. He would be in debtors prison being forced to work with less than ten fingers and 2 hands because there was no OSHA, there was no overtime. Your employer sold you everything including your housing at far more than you could pay, and when you could not pay you became a slave to your debt at the company, and if you ran it was the chain gang for you.

All the restrictions we have today, which still do not guaranty much, came from massive abuses by employers. No employer is going to offer you overtime pay without a regulation because there is always a scab. If you had standards you simply had to be independently wealthy to afford not to work for shit pay.

This is the argument of an uneducated idiot who does not recognize his entitlement and the benefits he had because of the unions that fought and died to protect him from capitalism. Slavery is the end result of any and all unregulated capitalism. This is because it is cheaper to beat people to work than it is to pay them because you can always find a guy willing to whip other humans rather than be the person whipped.
