Yep. If Jesus really was the son of God, and he didn't die on a cross in ancient Roman times, it sure would be nice if he would show up and clarify a great many number of things. Things are kind of going all to shit down here, and the people who claim to work in his name are just murdering a fuckload of his other children so they can amass wealth and power. Seems like the wrong direction to take, if you ask me.

That's why I stopped being one. I could not work out the massive inconsistencies between what conservative Christian leaders were telling me, and what I had actually read and learned from the Bible. When you're raised in it, you take what you're told for granted, and you trust that authority, but there comes a point where you have to take a look at it objectively and ask "is this my faith, or is it the faith of my parents?"

 

Now that is a plan that would make me vote for trump if he were god's opponent. From the biblical tree of philosophy I could get no comfort in that idea.

This is why I would say I was a lucifarian (not satanist) if the abrahamic faith were to be true. At least the choice between knowledge and eternal bliss would be one where you would accept pains like this for understanding and knowledge. Ignorance is bliss for a reason, and that is you are ignorant of pain. Knowledge includes knowledge of loss. Given the choice I would chose knowledge.

That puts the abrahamic tree in an area where god tortures his creations with pain to find the ones that will beg him to be ignorant because it hurts too much. If that is the case, thanks for the fucking apple and where is the ticket booth for hell?

 

It is interesting how in many areas of christian philosophy it rationalizes good deeds fairly well. I am not saying it is a gem, but there are some good explanations of good things being the creator of a good environment so to say. Throughout all the indoctrination, preaching, and activities to promote these ideas none of it got through to a very large bunch of the abrahamic faith.

I did not grow up fully in any religion so other people would have to speak on this. What the fuck do they do week after week for a couple of hours on a sunday? Doesn't the priest talk about the simple things?

 

Also, the Right tends to reject "God helps those who helps themselves" when it comes to, say, climate change (we have to just trust that God has a plan and will fix it for us!) or COVID (sure, we have a whole bunch of tools to fight the pandemic, but we shouldn't use them because we should let God take care of it).

 

Or if you're a black man who becomes president fair and square.

Did they latch so strongly onto it because seeing a Black man elected president broke them inside, and "well, he's half white, so maybe the part that made him successful was the white part" was a soothing balm?

Oh, I get their "logic." African-Americans, who are descendants of slaves, are "real" Blacks, even if they have some white blood, because both their parents were born in America. Obama's father, having been born in Kenya, means that he's not fully American, even though if someone had an American parent, and a British parent, folks wouldn't hesitate to call that person "American" if they had spent most of their life in America and had rejected British citizenship. Mind you, up until 2016, Boris Johnson had both UK and American citizenship. I don't think that prior to his having given up his US citizenship that too many of us Yanks would have thought of BoJo as an American. What with him having an accent and all.

You assume he’s arguing in being disingenuous. Asking questions to ascertain the exact nature of the concept you are trying to convey is not disingenuous. And if the answers to those questions lead him to a certain conclusion that you did not expect does not mean he’s trying to play gotcha. It’s just a question about your original concept.
