You keep using that word, but you seem to not know what it means.

Can you point to the schools (elementary or high school will be fine) using a system like the one you propose? Since you're so confident that it would work and the problems involved wouldn't make it non-viable I'm sure you're not just making up the idea yourself and ignoring all the objections raised.

so you want to add all that just to get a call off to the cops once someone has tried to breach the building? barn door/horses.

you don't define the steps, you don't get to blame others for asking what they are- no matter how used to blaming other people you're accustomed to in every other aspect of life. And again, you've gotta do that for every student every time they enter the building.

Even with multiple entrances (which I was presuming)... that doesn't change the number of students. all you're doing is multiplying the number of metal detectors and paid staff

but lets say someone gets swiped in, they haven't hit the metal detector yet, pull out a gun and pop the security attendant.
now they're inside and the door is locked electronically behind them with NOTHING in front of them.

Now once more for the folks at hme... what is so dangerous in your life that you need to take a gun to a playground?

I worked in a gas station that was robbed multiple times at gunpoint. For me it was twice. The electronic lock on the door that was installed after the first time I was robbed did not stop them the second time. the crappy thing broke under human pressure. The second time I was robbed the cops were actually watching the station from across the street and the robbers had time to try to smash the cash register open and run away with it. I am pretty sure that means they would have had time to get in and shoot me if killing was their goal.

If Killing was their goal they would have had me anyway. because even if I had a gun on my person you do not stay in ready to fire mode all the fucking time. Even soldiers in war end up getting shot letting their guard down because you do not stay alert all the time, and just having a gun and being alert does not mean the bad guy is fucked.

A gun is simply a half ass defense.

Making guns hard to get would eventually lower gun deaths and violence. That is a proven fact at this point. It will take time in america which is why it should start now if people want to ever see a better day, but it would lower gun violence.

You simply cannot protect yourself from spree shooters with a gun. To protect yourself in a military style where you are in a warzone you have to have guards and safe areas. When the potential killer is among you and allowed to walk around armed freely even having guards is not going to help because it is an every man for himself situation. You cannot use the full protections of war and prison systems in a situation where people are intermingling and prevent a spree killer.

The best protection against a spree killer is lack of ability to kill, and in a civilized society that means guns are not around forcing spree killers to go to knives or blunt objects which are far less deadly, and leave the killer far more vulnerable to attack.

If, as in virtually all school shootings to this point, the perpetrator is a student, they will have access to get through the security door. There seems to be little stopping them from then using their gun to kill anyone manning the security station inside.

Fair enough if we are assuming multiple entrances. But that means security guards and metal detectors at each entrance for the system to possibly work. Otherwise a would-be gunman would simply pick the unsecured entrances to start their rampage. And so now the cost of your system has multiplied 4+-fold.

Are you envisioning security door/metal detector/security door? In such a case, the gunman can kill whoever is manning the metal detector and open the security door themselves. (And keep in mind, we are talking lone gunman here, not one or more people acting in concert as in Columbine).

And again, even in the best scenario, the security system would only stop people from being gunned down within the school.

There is no practical way to stop a school shooter from going after people as they are coming and going from the school.

I don't think there's anything weasely or dishonest about the fact that there have been precious few mass shootings that were perpetrated at schools with handguns.

I doubt UA will be happy until the student body is all in Solitary for safety, and they can get their lessons from a hologram projected in through reinforced glass slit through the door.

The interesting thing is that I think teen UA would be arguing against adult UA because of the massive infringement on his rights to go and come as he pleases, to bring his metal Knight Rider lunchbox without it being subjected to scrutiny, and as part of how the school is a factory for government-imposed conformity and obedience.

One of the first school shooting was done by a girl. Her father gave her a gun, and one monday when she was bored she shot the kids getting off the buses from her home because she didn't like mondays. The kids were not in school yet, and I would imagine the inside of the school was a safe spot so you would not have wanted a large mass of kids at the door trying to get in.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_Elementary_School_shooting_(San_Diego)

In 1979 a poor suicidal girl with violence problems was given a gun by her own father. Her own thought was her dad gave her the gun in hopes she would kill herself.

We have not learned a fucking thing, and the guntards do not want to do a damned thing about this. I think the thing that needs to be learned is you cannot let guntards regulate guns. It has never worked, and it is obvious when we take control from them and regulate guns based on safety and necessity we make society so much safer.

well, hardly the first... but we got a great song out of that one.

like, there was this one here in 1975.

Unsurprisingly, it came up when we revised gun laws a few years later and introduced the FAC

Supposedly, as I'm not going to go looking for it, newly released footage of the shooting, where the Police Chief can be heard mentioning the shooter by name, shortly after he arrived on the scene. Meaning that somehow, he knew who the fuck was doing the shooting, even though the official story was that the shooter wasn't identified at that time.

School shootings is not new. There were more than 40 school shootings before 1900. After that … Wikipedia had to have to separate pages - on pre 2000 and the other 2000 till now.
