We still have tanks and Bradleys.

If used properly (in ambush, behind cover and with the bestest 105mm APFSDS rounds we have) Stryker MGS can take on and defeat anything it's likely to encounter in an Iraq-like situation. In a Third World military-type conflict, T-54/55s, T-62s or even export-model T-72s (some of those were knocked out by Bradleys firing 25mm DU in March 03) can be dealt with as long as the Stryker guys don't get stupid and try to go toe-to-toe with them (slat armor won't protect from kinetic energy rounds).

IIRC, Stryker has TOW variants as well.


The real problems are that the Future Combat System program (to field eventual successors to Abrams, Bradley, M109, etc) is really fucked up right now. Not that I'm a fan of the FCS (stupid Shinseki/Rumsfeld idea), but it appears that we may have wasted a lot of time and treasure on something that isn't going to produce any vehicles (hello Crusader and Commanche).

Abrams may become the B-52 of tanks, with sons crewing their fathers' tanks...
