So you're intentionally using a term used by Nazis as an anti-semitic dog whistle to describe something else that doesn't meet the original definition.... why, exactly? Are you somehow incapable of coming up with your own terminology? Trying to be edgy on purpose? Twisting yourself into pretzels because it's easier than admitting you got duped by the alt-right?
Bingo. So what does it suggest when people are trying to label any history like that as divisive CRT?
Yeah, she lost me once she started talking about Biden not being alive in 2024 to be re-nominated. But I kept watching anyway, and she seems to also be underestimating the baggage Trump would be bringing with him in 2024. How many of his associates will be in prison by then, if not Trump himself? How many bridges did he burn with his fellow Republicans on January 6th? How are the candidates he's endorsed over the last couple years been doing in their own races?
Struggling working-class families don't care. Those Republicans who opposed him after January 6 have been neutered or forced out of power. See: Liz Cheney. The party is his. Fair point, but I believe overall it's been a mixed result.
What do they care about, in your opinion? When it was pointed out that Trump and the Republicans were lying to them while giving out tax cuts to billionaires and that Biden and (most of) the Democrats were working to fund things that would help them, you came back with something about rural folks not feeling properly respected by urban Dems. Is the solution for Democrats to pander to them and lie as well? Or to fuck over various minority groups to curry favour with the intolerant majority? And if they're truly struggling, why didn't they consider that they were still struggling after four years of Trump? And if they're not truly struggling, why should anyone lie and endorse their victimization fetish?
Pander? Yes. Lie? Maybe. Whatever works. Fuck over minorities? No. People of all types will be served by Dems empowered to enact leftward economic policies like Medicare for All. Avoid molesting average people with woke nonsense? Yes. To win elections, improve lives, and unfuck our country? Apparently this isn't a worthy goal for you, if it means you have to wake up about how appealing (or not) some of your beliefs are.
After eight years with a radical America-Hating Marxist Kenyan Muslim Socialist in the White House and nothing too terrible happening, you think they'd have gotten over their fears by now. It's almost like those fear aren't rational. Partially related: I feel like some of us owe Dayton an apology, years ago he started a thread asking why political candidates didn't try to directly and openly appeal to white voters, and we told him that was a dumb idea that would never work.
I don't contest that that's relevant to the core of Trump's supporters, but those are a relatively small group who were going to vote Red anyway. The topic here what's turning average, centrist people off about Dems.
Two things: 1) That "woke nonsense" has a tendency to involve the rights of minorities. 2) Which makes me wonder how exactly you are defining "average people."
Did everyone forget that HRC insulted a huge chunk of the population and before that Obama did the same thing with the guns and religion statement?
Your ideas are not going to work. What you are suggesting is dems stop playing rep lite and start going full on racist lies to win against the king champions of legitimate racism and prejudice because that will make people vote for them? Then the reps are just going to sit around and do absolutely nothing when the dems put in more socialist policies to improve the world? That is some dayton level stupid there. You need to go check and make sure you are not a substitute gym teacher with no feet.
Technically HRC did not insult them. You are a deplorable. That is just who and what you are. You just do not take as much pride in it as most of the deplorables do.
If you're referring to the "deplorables" comment, she was right. At the time Clinton was referencing a specific subset of Trump supporters but it shows just how stupid the average Republican/conservative has become that they thought she was talking about all 2016 Trump supporters.
So Obama didn't talk about people clinging on to their religion and guns and Hillary didn't call voters deplorable? I must have imagined that.
At the risk of getting bogged down in the semantics of what constitutes "wokeness" -- It also has a tendency to divide people unnecessarily, hinder consensus and progress, and distract from the substantive issues facing minorities. See: John McWhorter, Woke Racism: How a New Religion Has Betrayed Black America (2021) Strong majorities of Americans find that people are too easily offended, that movements like Defund the Police are disagreeable (including a majority of Blacks), among other things. (CNN linking to other sources) I could go on. The bottom line is, yes, average people hate this shit.
We should not be catering to the average person because they are fucking idiots. Average people are frightened animals who would die because of the lies in a bad storybook written over a thousand years ago. If you do not understand the problems with average people then you are one. I really do not want to hitch my wagon to the judgment and ideas of average people.
If you're unwilling to cater to the majority, then don't bother saying you believe in democracy. You don't.
Clinton called a very specific group of voters deplorable -- specifically, "racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic" voters. Are you going to argue that they aren't?
Obama was making basically the same argument as @Rimjob Bob in this thread, explaining to a group of wealthy donors that going after gun rights and traditional religion would alienate voters who might otherwise support Democratic economic policies. Perhaps the word “cling” wasn’t the best choice there. Likewise, the whole point of the “basket of deplorables” remark was that according to HRC half of Trump’s supporters didn’t belong in it.
Trump is not the Boogeyman the left has made him out to be and the people who voted for him aren't horrible people. You've bought into the narrative and it's ridiculous.
