Is "What IF?" I found out on IMDB that Erin Gray almost got the role of Captain Janeway in Voyager. If only...
Yeah, when I first heard about the show, Lindsy Wagner was rumored to be the choice. Either way, I would have preferred Wagner or Gray.
She's probably still thanking her lucky stars that she was never associated with that piece of shit show.
Because Buck Rogers was quality television, especially once they went exploring on the good ship Explorer and had a bird man named Hawk?
I thought Voyager had a good cast. I didn't care for the characters of Kes and Sixty-Nine, and the scripts just sucked. Same for ENT: good cast, but the stories sucked.
Course the title was disappointing. I would think the most haunting question would be something like... "Were there children in that bus I bazookad? They told me it was just nuns....they told me it was just nuns.....". Or... "Shit...I really hope that was a female hooker who blew me last night...".
I always liked Kate Mulgrew as the Captain. When I first heard she was cast, I thought it was a good idea. I knew her from the strong roles she'd had in 'Remo Williams' and 'Cheers.' But it would be nice to see the road not taken. Erin Grey as Janeway might've worked very well. I think Lindsay Wagner would've worked well, too.
I remember reading somewhere that Linda Hamilton passed on Voyager 'cause she didn't want to make a commitment to a TV series again.
Shit, Beauty And The Beast, and Voyager in a row? Her career would be...in..a standstill...oh... Someone put Linda in a movie dammit!!
The biggest problem (and I think there's a video of her at a convention on YouTube where she admits this) was that most of the writers didn't really know how to write for a strong female captain, and the character lacked consistency. "Prime directive" one episode, "I can't let these people suffer" the next.
It really would not have changed Voyager. Good acting can't save bad writing. Scott Bakula is a good enough actor. But he couldn't overcome being miscast and poorly written on Enterprise. Of course, Patrick Stewart couldn't have saved Enterprise on his best days. God help us. If Berman & Braga had Stewart starring in Enterprise they probably would've had him wear a toupee.
They wouldn't have cast Stewart. Say what you will about Roddenberry, he had a magic touch for casting.
Didn't they have to talk Roddenberry into getting Stewart because Roddenberry wanted someone more "French"?
He was fixated on the french thing, but once he saw Stewart in a play, it was all over, he had to have him.
