Initially I thought I was going to pass on this one, as it's a theme that I've seen several times already, hell going back to the old Equalizer TV show in the 80s. An ex-spy is brought out of retirement to settle scores. Pretty much standard fare these days. But the cast was intriguing. Jeff Bridges, John Lithgow as the two primaries. And the Old Man could be referencing an even older ex spy played by Joel Gray. I'm glad I decided to give it a try. It's a tautly written thriller with a lot of great ideas in it, great acting, good character development, a really effective use of flash backs, and more than anything else a sense that the author of the series had perspective and perhaps even wisdom when it came to the world and these characters. I particularly like all the characters are smart, all of them have their own perspective and all of them think of themselves as the protagonist of their stories. Anyway, if you like that sort of thing it's worth a look. Pretty sure they are doing a season 2 as it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, but we'll see. It's on Hulu.
I liked it, though the last few episodes got a little too talky for me. The flashback actor for The Dude is okay but they really nailed the casting for the younger version of the Lithgow character.
Yeah, young Lithgow was freakin' incredible. I liked Bill Heck well enough as Johnny, but the other guy was absolutely spot on.
