You'd think Donald would be the one buying new underwear in the wake of being raided by the FBI, but it turns out it's Melania.

Her latest play for public sympathy includes the detail that she has her own bedroom at the Trash Palace and Donnie isn't allowed to enter it, a revelation I'm sure Donnie is thrilled about:

And a Wonkette link for those who find the news easier to take when it's written with a heavy dose of snark:

Maybe I'm the one who's out of touch, but it seems pretty drastic to say "strangers went through my underwear, so the only response is to throw it out because germs."

Not really surprising after all the times she slapped his hand away when he tried to hold it.

The list is out of what the FBI seized.

This includes 43 folders marked 'classified' - with nothing in them.

Which begs the question - where did those files go?

Hopefully there are tracking numbers or something so that they can figure out what the files were ...

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse

I mean it now looks like he was negotiating with the feds to return the files in bad faith fully knowing he was circulating those classified documents

He needs to be placed under arrest, any other person would be by now

Yikes. Hopefully the folders can tell the FBI what documents are missing. I wonder if he’ll claim he destroyed them rather than sold them, to try to get a lighter sentence.

I can accept them being extremely cautious with Trump, if only because he's got enough lawyers and observers and sympathizers on his side that he could probably walk free if the FBI fails to cross a single t or dot a single i. :clyde:

I agree, but the problem for Trump is that his lifelong habit of stiffing and/or shitting on lawyers is catching up with him. His lawyers' handling of the Mar a Largo incident would embarrass a first year law student.

It sounds like unraveling the mystery of the empty folders may take a while. The FBI also seized a whole bunch of "unfoldered documents," so they'll have to go through all of those to figure out which folders' contents are still missing, and which were just haphazardly thrown around the Trash Palace with the takeout menus and the unopened copies of Junior's book.

(Though since photocopiers and cell phone cameras are things that exist, the difference may be immaterial.)

    Oh this is interesting.

So every box collected had news clippings about Trump in it. Every desk drawer. His personal leather folder. The clippings go back to 1995.
His file system appears to be ‘I pile things on my desk including fawning news pieces my sycophants give me to me until the pile gets too big and then my staff puts in a box and takes away.’

There is not a single news clipping after November 2020.

This is in a bar called "45 Wine And Whiskey" in Trump Tower.

If it were anyone else, I'd say it was a mock-up replica given the theme of the bar is Trump POTUS memorabilia.

Since it's Trump, I'd be encouraging the authorities to raid that bar RIGHT FUCKING NOW.

He also had a bunch of documents shredded that he wasn't legally allowed to do so. There was a team just to reassemble them. He may be a senile pack rat, but he's a CRIMINAL senile pack rat.

I know that the US presents an easy punching bag. I myself often use the :enty: emoji when frustrated at some of my government’s current policies.

But the fact remains that we are the longest surviving Republic in world history.

We have been a beacon of freedom for close to two centuries.

We are currently the most functional (maybe only functional depending on view of BJP) multi-ethnic/racial democracy in the world.

And for all our foreign policy blunders there really is no other single state in the world that does as much to expand human rights and higher standards of living than the US.

All that to say I don’t think the world will be better off by a US civil war.

Even if it bloodless. It’ll be years of navel gazing and turning a blind eye to the world around us.

A lot of folks might think a weak US is a good thing but might not like it when Xi/China try and step into the void.

At least Putin's Russia is in freefall.

Technically San Marino is the oldest republic in the world - and oldest extant nation state, established 301 AD. But, it's San Marino. :D

As to Civil War, I'm actually a little more hopeful on that now than I was. Perhaps I'm being naive, but if they make the mistake of attacking the US government while Trump is being indicted it's going to go very poorly for them. This isn't Trump in charge of the military any more.

It's unpopular to say, but the military is likely what saved us the last time. Between Mattis and Miley they warned us of what was coming and made sure that the military would not be used in the execution of the coup.

I do not think it is unpopular. I did have faith the military would not back trump. Their loyalty is to america, and there is no reason for them to start thinking Trump can support their efforts. Trump knew a real strong man leader would have gone with the insurrectionists, but he caved to procedure like he will always have to because no one is loyal to him. They are loyal to the position and the government. That goes on without him. They all know that. What is he going to do? Seize the manufacturing we have to make weapons? Seize the farms to feed the troops? Seize the houses and transportation?

NJone of his people can actually do anything. They are all on disability and have tons of time to make threats and get in people's faces in a location, but they cannot hold and supply an armed force against the american military on their own turf.

I'd honestly like to see how your country gets out of this mess without some form of breakup or bloodshed.

There are tens of millions of uneducated American motherfuckers, all willing to follow the next shithead over the cliff.

That doesn't mean there aren't dumb motherfuckers in other countries (including mine) but so far most of us have been successful in keeping a lid on them.

America is the pot that's about to boil over, and the rest of us are watching in earnest to see how you get out of it so we can learn from your mistakes.
