You are proposing a framework where if a person runs against a successful presidential candidate, they have a license to commit however many crimes they want. Because if they face any consequences for those crimes, even from a jurisdiction over which the president has no control, it means the president is a fascist.

The hacked Republican congressman story made me think of Hilary Clinton. I wish there were intelligent and reasonable Trump supporters/Republicans who could attempt to explain how Hilary was supposedly guilty of all sorts of crimes but somehow managed to escape prosecution, yet Trump is on indictment four. Do they genuinely believe that Clinton is just that much better at crime than Trump, or that despite law enforcement being such a heavily Republican profession that law enforcement was out to get Trump but gave her multiple passes?

I went down the Georgia pardons rabbit hole a little, because it doesn't really matter what the rules say right now -- what matters is whether Republicans have the ability to change the rules, because as we know, they have no shame and will do anything to protect the Lord God Trump.

The State Board of Pardons and Paroles gets its power from the state constitution, and the constitution can't be amended without two-thirds of both legislative chambers, which Republicans don't have. So they can't just change the law to grant the governor unilateral pardon powers.

However, the requirement that a person serve at least five years of a sentence before being pardoned does not appear in the constitution, so I assume that's either a legislative statute or parole board policy. Republicans do have a majority of both chambers plus the governorship, and all five members of the parole board were appointed or reappointed by either Brian Kemp or Nathan Deal. So if Trump gets convicted, they'll probably just change the rules.
