Summed up in one sentence: "The sheer absurdity of her fame ensures that anyone who denigrates it looks even more foolish" --ALesandra Stanley, N.Y. Times Reporter.
Fake or not? TV anchor refuses to read PH 'news' as lead Personally, I do wonder if she's the aphelion in the path of the Culture of Stupid. I really don't want to know what comes after her unless it's less dumb.
Mika Brzezinski should be fired for refusing to do her job. She's just a news reader not a journalist or an editor.
No, she's a journalist who made a stand. And my newest heroine. The BBC newsreader who reported that incident this morning said, very meaningfully, 'And we all know how she felt...'
What I find amusing is the jealousy and envy the world feels toward Paris in the form of outright hatred and wanting to see bad things happen to her, yet she has done nothing to anyone. It is the media that made her famous and keeps this whole thing going. The media needs to take a long look at itself and what it considers news and if people want to hate or blame anyone it should be the media and not Paris.
People are getting pissed off by being forced to hear 'news' about somebody who's being paid millions for just existing. She's not only an insult to the intellect but an insult to everybody who has to work for a living. And I don't wish bad upon her. I just wish I would't hear about her every step anymore. I always saw her as the pinnacle of the Culture of Stupid, but since she has moved from the glitter pages (which I avoid) to actual news, I'm getting slightly angry myself.
While I agree with her apparent view on the story, I believe the whole thing was a staged stunt and not spontaneous at all. MSNBC is desperate enough for ratings that I could see them pulling something like that. I'll bet that clip has been seen by far, far more people on YouTube than watched it live.
Hilton, and all the other 'celebrities' that appear in the news and magazines so often do so because of ordinary people, not themselves. They exist for the same reason we have junk mail, and spam, and tv adverts and computer virii, because they will always exist if there are enough total retards in the general population to fall for that shit
It is the medias fault that you hear about every step she makes. Put the blame where it lies. If they chose not to cover the gal then it would not be a problem. Besides, Cass you hate her because she is beautiful and more rich and famous than you.
No, it's her fault for deciding that she was going to embrace the "glamour" and pose for mags, party with the movie stars, etc, etc. She doesn't work. She doesn't contribute to society in any meaningful way. If ownership of the Hilton chain was passed on to her, the whole company would collapse in a month. And she certainly isn't beautiful. She's a twig who looks like her face has been ironed flat.
You've posted this dribble at every board I frequent, GB (4 in all). Do you really think it's going to pick up a significant audience?
True. But I can understand a singer or actor or famous sportsperson being famous for some sort of achievement. Paris Hilton rose to the top because she was in a porno. Big fuggin' deal, tons of girls that are far more attractive have done much better porn than her. the one thing she has going for her is being rich. Yippee. Like Aurora said, I too do not hate her. I'm sure she's a nice enough person, if I met in IRL. I just can't understand the appeal when she hasn't done anything that special.
I'd hit it, and pray my boys could swim. Just like if I ever get the chance with Jenna or Barbara Bush. Swim boys, lets get daddy on the gravy train.
*Sigh*...I guess it just can't be avoided...I guess that... [Lex Luthor]Wait for it.[/Lex] ...we'll always have Paris. (Thank you! Thank you!! I am available for children's parties!)
I'm reminded of the face Jeremy Paxman pulled when he had to announce (on Newsnight, no less) the birth of David and Victoria Beckham's first child. He did, however, get a glimmer of glee out of quoting David, who said: "It's something I've always wanted to do." This whole ridiculous situation (IMO, she should have just walked, given how she felt) just reminds me of the thing I miss most from UK TV news--the lack of editorialisation by the newsreader. It's not as good as it used to be; they're becoming more 'relaxed' over there now, too. I don't want to hear my newsreader's opinion on the story. I don't want them to turn to their co-anchor and offer a jokey aside or ask their opinion, either. I certainly don't want them changing the tone of their voice to emphasise their own personal opinion of a story. They should just tell me the facts of what's happening. I'll make my own damn mind up. One other thing. Why the fuck is this news in the UK?
It was BBC Breakfast, which, ironically enough, also contained a 10 minute item within 'Newswatch' complaing about how celebrity-obsessed Breakfast is becoming.
I like Paris not only because she IS pretty but also because she IS smart...smarter than she lets on, in fact. She's more intelligent than Britney, Lohan, etc... I also find the feigned hatred she engenders laughable. If people really hated her why are they so interested in everything she does. They can't get enough of her. That's why she is NEWS and is covered by CNN, BBC, NBC, CBS, Reuters, etc....If nobody cared then she would not be on the news. Duhh!! Given the replies in this thread alone, it is telling how on the mark the quote in the original post was. The people that "hate" Paris because of why she is famous could not look more foolish even if they tried really hard. I think the haters are all just jealous of Paris' fame and beauty.
