I didn't get one of my 1099s until earlier today as well. I need to double-check to make sure I don't have more coming.

Also, the notebook I used to keep track of mileage went missing when my car got stolen, so now I have to spend several hours going through statements if I want any deductions. (I used to use a GPS tracker for a back-up, but due to some android security updates, it stopped working. I also intended to copy my notebook to an excel document periodically, but ended up not doing that, because, reasons.)

Even if I end up not owing anything, I'm not getting a refund, so that shit can wait.

But, yeah, when all I had were W2s and I got refunds, that shit went out the day I got my hands on said W2s.

Doing taxes for gig apps is very simple compared to other types of self-employment, but still significantly more complicated than just entering a W2. (With W2s it would take me about twenty minutes. Under normal circumstances my current taxes would take me about an hour and a half.)

Way to reveal you know nothing about taxes. Many tax forms, like 1099s, aren't due to be issued until the end of February.

Doing taxes" seems strange to me since it happens automatically here, for the most part.

Do you guys need to save up every year to make the annual tax payment? Presumably there are those who fail to do so and can't pay...

Save up? No... at least, I've never heard of anyone who does.
The IRS might say you owe more than you paid, but normally you can work out payment plans or something else.
For most people, you end up getting at least something back. Sometimes a big something.

Not sure how it works in Leprechaunland, but I've worked in countries with a payroll tax versus an income tax. You need to give your employer all your relevant information upfront (including eligibility for tax reductions), and then the government takes its cut every paycheque. No annual filings required on the part of the taxpayer.

It gets a bit more complicated if you actually own a business or have significant investments, in which case some filings are required, but for the average taxpayer I found the payroll tax system much better than what we have in North America.

You mean stuff like housing benefit? If eligible, paid directly to the landlord.

Child tax credits are auto-paid into your account.

A lot of folks don’t understand that the largest DEI program in FedGov is Veterans Preference.

At the end of fiscal year 2023 (latest records) THIRTY PERCENT of the Federal workforce were Vets.

    Well, sorta.

1099-NEC's have to be issued by January 31 and 1099-MISC has a later deadline, but I'm pretty sure the later deadline is only for when you have to file them with the IRS, and the date they're supposed to be issued to the payee is still January 31.

(I can't say that for certain because almost all of the 1099's I file are NEC's, so I always just do the handful of MISC ones at the same time.)

    Direct, unambiguous evidence?
    1) Your endorsement of the J6 pardons.
    2) Your effusive, mocking glee when Trump was elected.
    3) Your full-throated objection to labeling him a rapist, in spite of all evidence to the contrary (including his own words).
    4) Your defense of his policies (Such as on Ukraine, trans issues, government spending, etc).

    That good enough?

We get a credit based (as far as I understand it) on the amount of provincial part of the harmonized sales tax paid as a portion of our rent.

I was wondering as this is variable depending on how much rent somebody pays in the first place.

SOME, in a manner consistant with any other application of crime and punishment. Next.

Laughing at silly cause-heads is not an endorsement of their boogie men. Next.

Distinguishing between accused, convicted, and "found legally liable" is just adherance to fact. Next.

Which policies would those be? You're making shit up again.

Good enough to prove you are full of shit.

We don't understand the system either.

For regular jobs, taxes are taken out of each paycheck, but it seems like the only deduction taken into account is number of dependents (i.e.: someone supporting a family takes home a larger paycheck than a singer person.) Then, at the end of the year, we have to submit a form that takes everything into account. Most people end up overpaying throughout the year and receive a refund. Most states also collect income taxes, and some cities do.

Income received from something other than a regular job (investment accounts, independent contracting, debt forgiveness, lottery wins over $500, ect.), sometimes taxes are deducted from payments, but usually not. Unless people are really good at deducting expenses, this usually ends up with people owing taxes.

As an Uber driver, (income received from something other than a regular job), apparently I'm supposed to estimate my taxes and make quarterly payments, but I don't bother, and the IRS and state don't seem to care as long as I pay up at the end of the year.

If I don't pay up, they send me letters saying if I don't pay up they're going to start charging interest and penalties, and may start seizing property.

That's pretty much how everything works in the US. If you can't pay for something, the general response is "well, you have to pay, so there! In fact, you have to pay even more now."

Unless you're self employed, then you'd better.

I'm making (for now) around a thousand a month from Door Dash and I own both parts of FICA, so $153 out of that thousand will go to taxes. If I don't save through the year I'll be looking at an $1800+ tax bill all at once next spring. And the more your self-employment income is the bigger that gets. For, say, a small business owner that has to be a line item you take seriously.

And yet, it wasn't consistent. It was a blanket pardon that even Trump admitted had nothing to do with the merits of the crimes committed.
So by your own admission, if you support any of them, you support Trump.

Odd then that I didn't see other conservatives on here doing the same. Just you and fellow denier-of-supporting-Trump FF. Interesting bedfellows.

Yes, you often display the same level of concern for legal definitions equally, across the board. It's not like this is an isolated incident, not at all.

I pointed out the policies literally one line above you. I'd ask if you can read, but I already know the answer.

Well, yeah. Lord knows paying corporate taxes was a pain in the ass for my large every year (and one of the reasons I wanted nothing to do with taking it on when they retired).
They had to anticipate paying at least $100,000 every year.
