It must be even worse for people who are well known. I know everyone does stupid stuff when we are young, but I think he should have deleted his old tweets as soon as he started working with Disney/Marvel and definitely should have done it before arguing online with people about politics.

It sucks and it’s probably not fair but Disney is the family friendly company. You had to know they would fire him.

I find it impossible to believe that Disney, which has security and investigative departments to rival the CIA, didn't already know about the existence of these tweets. You don't hand a guy, a relative unknown, the keys to your new summer tentpole franchise and hundreds of millions, without thoroughly vetting him. And of course the first thing you do in this day and age is scour someone's social media history. No, they knew his past, they were just hoping it wouldn't come to light.

Were the jokes/statements offensive? I suppose, but no more so than what you'll hear from Dave Chapelle on his latest Netflix specials.

In the final analysis, Gunn took an obscure comic property that nobody outside of the geekiest of geek circles knew about and spun it into two gigantic blockbusters that combined earned Disney upwards of 1.6 billion. Few directors could have taken this offbeat property and turned it into something special. You'd think Gunn would have earned just a little bit more loyalty from his employer.

This whole dynamic that's sprung up over the past couple of years, where the go-to strategy for extracting revenge from your political/intellectual enemies is to dredge up something they wrote years prior on social media and create a shitstorm over it is really, really depressing. Tabloid hit jobs and trial by social media is par for the course these days. Facts, evidence, due process, all have become totally meaningless.

The sports media did it this past week with baseball pitcher Josh Hader of the Brewers, dredging up social media posts from when he was 17 in a pathetic attempt to generate controversy and clicks/hits.

Everybody who wanted to know, knew. The thing was public for years, not least because Gunn very publicly decried his own previous behaviour on many occasions.

Dan Harmon is on the run.

He's already got some strikes against him in regards to treatment of woman when he was on Community. Sexually harrassed one of the writers.

He also said recently that one-third of the country is Nazi.

Daryl featured Harmon as a "baby rapist with a heart of gold" (as opposed to Dexter's serial killer with a heart of gold). In one sequence, Harmon simulates sex with a baby doll.

If you Google the video, I refuse to link to it, he enters the room drops his pants, literally is naked and fucks a baby doll. And there are baby sounds in the video.
