Wow. So President Obama is also a salesman for Boeing? Who knew? I wonder how much they're paying him. Edit: Since the President is on Boeing's payroll, shouldn't they pay for the trip instead of us taxpayers? Surely he gets a per diem or something from them... Edit #2: Sent from my iPhone using tapanutsack. I'm standing outside the hotel freezing my ass off because my Agency doesn't understand the concept of "smoking room" at a hotel.
I never realized that Obama builds the best-selling airplanes in the world! That changes my whole opinion of him!
And why shouldn't Obama be able to sell aircraft. It wasn't long ago that he was the frearm industry's Salesman of the Year, after all. And he got everyone to buy medical insurance whether you need it or not.
Jesus, some of you are really invested in your hatred of Obama, aren't you? Maybe next week he can walk on water, so you can bitch about him being too lazy to swim.
To be fair, this thread has little bearing on the discussion about the $2 billion price tag for the current administrations travel expenses.
No wonder the country is going broke! This elitist fucknut is spending my hard-earned cash on his elaborate vacations, and I haven't been able to afford to go on a vacation in the past two years. Fuck him and the horse he rode in on.
Typical moron. All of this would have happened anyway, they just saved for Barry's visit. A peon airline running 20 B737's is not going to buy Airbuses and double their maintenance budget by adding a new type. They were always going to buy Boeing's. Barry accomplished nothing but making idiots like you think he's great. at your stupidity.
Obama could piss rainbows and shit gold doubloons at this point and you'd shun him for giving free entertainment and devaluing gold.
When your "vacations" result in thousands of new American jobs, maybe someone will give a fuck about you having one. This was a trade mission, not a vacation. Intelligent leaders go on the all the time, though they're not usually as successful as this one. The 2.7 Billion Boeing deal is only one of the deals worth 10 Billion that happened during this trip.
^ If you really think any of this was not a done deal before he got there, you are dumber than Liet. Obama did nothing to further trade in the few hours he's been there. This has nothing to do with Obama. The same thing was true when Bush, Reagan, Clinton, Kennedy etc signed deals on visits to foreign nations. They are always done deals long before they get there. They are just political moments.
I don't think Obama's gonna sign anything - it's a contract between two private companies so there isn't really any role for him to play. Apart from that, I'd guess that trips like this have been happening for decades so there's really not all that much to get excited about (even though a $2bn price tag does sound rather steep...).
it is, to be sure, true that dislike for a president's positions sometimes snowballs to the point where it's hard to ever see his actions as a reason for anything to criticize (although there HAVE been occasions where the consensus here was that he'd done right on some choice) and BO has surely passed that point. Wat fascinates me is that with each new president, his defenders make an observation like yours as if it's a new thing. I've not seen a president in my adult lifetime which didn't have a solid assembly of critics who found fault with virtually every choice. In other words - your observation, even to whatever extent it's true, is an observation not on the critics, but on human nature and the way of the world. Reverse al the players and it would be just as true (and was, for most of the past decade)
Obama can't sign anything on his own anyways. If there is any type of a treaty, it will also take the Senate to buy into it as well.
tell me you are not so naive as to be unaware of "ceremonial closings"? I won't deny that it's possible some government action helped facilitate this deal (not unlike how MS helped that ammo plant make their move) but holding over the "official" closing of the deal for an occasion when a high mucky-muck can be in attendance is SOP. there's no sense in which this trip, whether expensive or cheap, helped this deal come about or caused it to happen.
I'm certainly aware of them, but as your next sentence recognizes.. If all the deals were finalized in advance of the trip, if would have made more sense for Obama to go before the election, when the "Obama brings in thousands of new jobs" headline would have done the Democrats some good.
That's true, but you have to remember I've only been politically aware since about 17, so I've only been experienced with two presidents so far.
You might want to avoid calling people stupid when they disagree with your opinions. Especially given your admitted lack of experience.
Obama facilitated a deal between two private businesses, huh? Apparently, a bunch of you morons learned international relationships from watching King Ralph.
Eh. What I lack in experience I make up for political science, business, economics, and accounting studies. Additionally, you could argue that since I don't have the experience I'm inclined to look at the Presidents more objectively since I'm not jaded by years of disappointment.
