There actually IS a path, in fact it’s the only solution *with* a path.
The Senate CR has more than enough votes to pass. It passed overwhelmingly with Dem + GOP votes.

It would pass the House too. They just don’t want to call the vote and do what is necessary to keep gov open.

Hopefully House Ds have already started signature gathering for a Discharge Petition.

And we’re back to our regularly scheduled McCarthy Death Watch programming:

Kevin McCarthy is so fucking bad at his job. he spent two weeks getting tortured by the shit-flingers in his own party and then he caved at the last minute, and he'll probably still lose his job anyway because inexplicably-unindicted sex pest Matt Gaetz hates his fucking guts. pass the popcorn

The dems have to make a choice. They either back MCarthy and let the R team get a symbolic win by keeping him speaker while going to him in private and telling him if he wants to keep that job he better be willing to do the bipartisan thing in November and he will get enough dem votes to keep the speakership because they now own him. Or they can try to wrestle the speakership away from him and hope enough republicans will support a dem speaker and risk a radical right primary challenge and being labelled as a RINO for not being a crazy teabagger.

Where I would love to own the repugs by the minority taking the speaker battle this may be the time to play the reasonable people in the room and win over some independent voters by not spiking the ball. I have a feeling in an attempt to fuck over the progressive wing the middle is going to keep McCarthy in charge as their pawn because spiking the ball will only make the progressives start demanding a shift towards taxing the rich and pushing UHC, a raise in minimum wage, and more regulatory taxes on wealthy corporations.

McCarthy makes a better tool than a martyr if your end goal is a show of bipartisan getting along rather than a left swing. Since Biden is the republican bipartisan who needs a win and the dems look towards a middle ground win over energizing their base I bet they keep McCarthy in there and push him to speak against the radical right crazies like MTG.

I support none of that but will say it is the wisest move and a great way to set up losses on things like environment protection and making things better for the people which is something most dem politicians really hate.

Fox News reporter so take it with a grain of salt. Thread:

Right now there is a push among some R’s to bring Dems to the table to make agreement to change rules package - determine what they want for that - to “marginalize the crazy half dozen, minimize the chaos and govern better”, one GOP member tells me

Dems would need to extract some major concessions to go along with that. Can't see it happening.

LOOK AT ALL THE MESSAGING BILLS WE PASSED!

But we all know the kind of gullible rubes who don’t actually care about results (in this case a bill becoming laws) the Sound and the Fury is all that matters to them.

McCarthy presumably wants to get reelected as well as keep the speakership. Can’t imagine a faster way to get primaried than to give the CPC any power.

I think it is both an opening bid AND directed at the Problem Solver and New Democrat Coalition folks more than McCarthy:

Don’t be making some grand bargain that is both a budget AND promising to support McCarthy in the future. That isn’t necessary, we have a plan. So when you try and claim you ‘had to vote for McCarthy’ next primary we’ll have the receipts.

I don’t imagine they need a public signal for that. The CPC is not in such poor standing with Jeffries and the other Dem caucuses that they can’t just coordinate on this. Anyone who’s going to care if their local congresscritter voted for McCarthy when it comes time for the primary can surely see that the offer isn’t designed to be accepted.

I think it’s actually just mocking McCarthy’s weakness here. Which, okay, but that’s not actually useful.
