In what way? The creator of the show never intended it to be solely for kids. I'm simply quoting what she said on the subject.
Wow. That devolved pretty quickly. At least we know where some people stand on the issue. Me? Doesn't matter too much in the big picture. If they want to participate then fine by me
Come on Tamar, we don't have to play this game. I fired you. You know it, I know it, Archangel saw right through the BS.
Where is Clyde however? Was he told not to come to this board or he just decided not to show up? I for one would love to see an unrestrained Clyde loose on this board.
Edit: @El Chup - forgot to use the new feature. 1. I agree with you about MLP and Bronies. 2. I wouldn't have merged them in if it was me running this place solo. 3. That having been said, I'm not worried about a sudden flood of them coming in here and gaying up WF. 4. This is the Red Room, not the help desk. The new Admin banners aren't going to protect you from the same old sarcastic quips, especially if you post like a whiny little bitch.
Considering she admitted it was more factors than health my suspicions seem to have been mostly correct. So your sarcasm may be a bit misplaced.
Just so you know, @Lanzman, I haven't been able to get "Something for Nothing" out of my head for about a week now. I hate you. I hate you and I hate Geddy Lee for not letting me sleep.
WF's first owner was Aurora, with whom many of the most prominent early members had substantial and bitter political differences. Did they get butthurt and refuse to post here? Hell no. Anybody who does now? Fuck 'em.
I wouldn't phrase it exactly like that, but I do agree with the sentiment. That said, I vowed to be the one to cut off the lights for the last time. So, I'm here until the very bitter end.
Have UA and Maud made it over from the other side yet? I haven't noticed them about. The reason I thought of both of them was they both had 'misgivings' about the new administration when it was all announced. So have they got lost in transition or busy at the laundrette washing their panties out??
Knowing UA, we can guess. Muad's probably fretting over FB connectivity. I probably should page him over at the WF FB page. And, yes, his concerns about the new staff have been noted.
Which part? The part where I cited the creator of the show's statement that she didn't make it solely for girls, but also for families, including adult males? That seems more like refutation than anything.
For what it's worth, I had a look at that "Brony Research Project" that @John linked to. Want to know why you're not putting forward a robust defence John? Here's a clue.... I really don't think anything more about it needs to be said.
Oh, that's right, we're going for the "loser virgin" group. I guess when you're a Star Trek fan, you have to establish a pecking order.
Well, I wouldn't know about that since aside from this place I don't associate with Star Trek fans nor am I active in it's fandom. But you don't think there is an correlation between the inability of these people to have meaningful relationships, or even get close to dating it seems, and the nature of the object of their fandom?
What is this supposed to be? A startling revelation? Oh no, these men and women are focusing on their particular hobby to the degree where they're not dating as often as those who do not! Welcome to every sci-fi/fantasy fandom ever. Did you read the part of the survey where 30% of the Brony fans are still in high school? Or that the average age of a Brony is 21 (though the age ranges from 14 to 57)? How many meaningful relationships did you form by the age of 21? Don't play dumb with me, you went for that statistic for two reasons: You wanted to #1, make it appear that Bronies are just hapless losers who can't even get laid, and #2, allude to the idea that it's so unhealthy that maybe they're targeting a certain demographic like, I don't know, children. Would that be where you're going with this? I know the pedophile thing gets tossed out every so often, but I tend to ignore it since it's baseless, utter bullshit. You wouldn't be in the habit of tossing about bullshit just to score a cheap point, would you?
Don't play the peado card with me. That's was entirely brought up by others. I haven't made that accusation once so don't play the straw man simply because I find grown men playing with feminine pony toys a little strange. What I was thinking was that if the majority of these Bronies are young men then it doesn't strike me as healthy if they are shut at home all day or in groups of like minded young men obsessing about cartoon ponies at the expense of their social development. Conversely, it may also be the case that some of them are hiding away in it to avoid social development for whatever reason (lack of confidence, inability to make friends, depression or whatever else), which, again, strikes me as unhealthy.
The only reason I mention the "pedo" card is because it does get brought up, and that label gets pushed, unfairly, onto kids who are still in high school, or just graduating college. The Brony fandom is a young one. People like me, who are older adults who enjoy the show, are a bit more rare. You say you find grown men playing with feminine pony toys a little strange. Of course you do, because you think there's such thing as a feminine toy. You've been raised to feel this way; boys play with boy toys, and girls play with girl toys, and those toys have specific styles and markings that denote what gender for which they are "appropriate." That's marketing. That's all that is. Pink is no more a girl's color than it is a boy's color. It has no gender. It is merely a color. Some boys like to play with baby dolls, because they have a more nurturing nature. Some girls like to play with monster truck toys because they are interested in engines, and giant machines. Then there's the kids like I was, who played with both. There is no right or wrong here. Neither of them should be admonished for liking what they like. This is a sentiment that has gained a lot of ground in the past few years, even getting to the point where toy stores like "Toys R Us" are now removing gender labels on their toys. No longer will toys be separated into "boy" sections and "girl" sections. You don't find it healthy because it's not how you would do things. You figure these kids are loners, shut at home all day, but it just isn't so. What's more, if they're in groups, then they are socializing, which is good! Yes, it's with people of like minded nature, but that's what a fandom is. You can apply that label to Trekkies, Browncoats, Whovians, Potter fans, and any other number of fandoms where a central theme is strong and present. Ponies are pastel colored, they're sweet tempered, and they're silly, and you don't understand why people like them. That's not a problem. I'm not a fan of Battlestar Galactica, and I'm terrible at D&D. I do not consider fans of either of those properties to be anything near "unhealthy," aside from any unhealthy elements that are present in every fandom. As a side note, I've been involved with Bronies who have become more social because of their enjoyment of the show. I have a soft spot for shy people, and while I won't make them "come out of their shell" (I think that's something you shouldn't do to an introvert), I will be there for them when they decide to socialize with others. I can't tell you how many of these high school kids have become more aware, more outgoing, because they want to spread the idea that having friends and being kind to one another is something worth sharing.
Sounds like it's pretty similar to reuniting men who are stuck at home playing RPGs or writing fan fic, or trying to hack web sites, or .... Obsessive fandoms are obsessive, news at 11!
