Doesn't happen when loading the forum index or thread lists. I open a thread, all visible content appears to load completely, and then I get to stare at the hourglass for another 20 seconds for no apparent reason. Is there something new running in the background?

Not sure yet, but I'm seeing the same thing intermittently. Might be the new "Share" icon, but I dunno yet.

I notice that wordforge.net moved up today from a pagerank of 1/10 to 2/10.

Might have something to do with people using the share icon and getting more traffic.

I mean, I've noticed there are a lot more guests on than there used to be.

Yep. It's getting slower for me too. Highly annoying.

If it is that share thing then lets get rid of it and ban Apostle for suggesting it. Obviously he did it on purpose to try and cause a board crash. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. :bailey:

OK guys, let's take a step back for a second.

This button is provided by AddThis.com. Per their literature, it's used by "SAP, TIME Magazine, Oracle, Entertainment Weekly, Topix, MySpace, Squidoo, FOX Sports, CBS, WebMD, American Idol, and the White House."

This isn't along the lines of a VB hack or something - the script, and its loading times, are quite reliable. In the half-dozen commercial sites I've used it on, we've never had a problem. And it's a very popular option on VB forums around the net.

The javascript it's loading is 20K. To give you a hint, loading the :spanishinquisition: smiley takes 25K. And if anything, the AddThis servers are going to be far, far faster than our own.

Per AddThis, in order to cache it locally, which would eliminate any middle-man operations, I'd have to basically set up a scheduled job to scrape their JS and update it once a day. Doable, but I'd have to do some research, and I can't guarantee that this would fix any issues.

Since Javascript is involved with this and any of the rep dialog issues, it rapidly becomes an issue of diagnosing both the delivery and the execution of the code. O2C and I can only really handle the former.

So, Kyle, are you saying this is not the problem, and we should be looking for something else to blame, or that it is the problem, and we should get the fuck over it?

I can't load borders, the row of links at the top of the page, or anyone's avatars. Yes, I cleared the cache. Yes, I restarted the browser. No, nothing is ad-blocked or no-scripted.

Well, arguably, were I implying anything, it's that your individual computers/browsers are to blame. ;)

However, I would welcome any solid data about the issue at hand, whether it points to the AddThis button or something else entirely. Stuff like the status bar chilling on "Waiting for http://s7.addthis.com/js/250/addthis_widget.js" for 5+ seconds or JS errors on page load.

Another thing I noticed was that the remote script had been included twice, so I eliminated the second call out to the script. I doubt that'd cause the issue, but it's fixed all the same.

Does the page say it's complete, or is it hanging on loading something?

Says it's done. Also, the quote function looks funny in the make-a-post page. I can see all the formatting 0_o lots of "< br /> " everywhere.

It's been slow loading for me too, using chrome.

Best dump the share thing and ban who ever had the idea.

Looks like one thing is hanging up every thread loading. I wouldn't even mind except that after you've scrolled down a bit, that one thing finally loads and springs you back up.

Reputation is also slow. I've had to open the rep up in a new tab just so I won't have to wait for it if the person really deserves it.

[-]IE7.[/-] Correction-my employer still has me on IE6. And save the douchebaggy anti-MS wankery for some other fucking time.

Browser window status displays "Done," but the blue progress bar at the bottom hangs there while the window is frozen for a few more seconds.

I changed the skin to the dark blue one (what's it called? ) and everything works now, so I figure it's a problem with Odelay?

*shrug* I'm not seeing it any different from how it was before, which is to say an occasional slight (0-5 second) hangup between the rest of the thread and the Quick Reply box. Maybe your ISP has a routing problem between it and addthis.com?
