I know this may be seen as a non-issue, but I'm uncomfortable with the idea of surfing the forums with every hot button topic labeled as pedophelia and nigger lynching.

If this feature isn't being used to serve an actual purpose can we just turn it off? I wouldn't want those tags showing up in my surfing history, regardless of where I surf from.

    Thoughts?

Oh and I agree. It's stupid. Turn it off.

Count me in on this suggestion. Tags seem like a pretty stupid function, just one more way for posters to troll.

They can be useful, if they weren't abused, but since we would be hard pressed to enforce any rules regarding the function we're simply better off without it. I've found tags quite helpful in numerous applications, but we do already have a search feature so we'd really just be doubling up.

I agree. There's not really any point to them except to give trolls one more thing to troll.

Completely different and don't to pretend for a second that you think otherwise. You're smarter than that.

Comments are different. Rep not so much so. But that's a battle that's been fought and lost too many times to be worth fighting again.

But yeah, no good can come from thread tags.

Thread tags are simply rep comments on the entire thread without any positive or negative affect on a person's reputation level. Remove both, IMO. If people are too lazy to hit the quote button in order to reply to a post, their comment must not have been that important to begin with, or they're too cowardly to let their opinion be more wildly known. Same with thread tags.

^Yeah. Seriously remove everything non-essential and the board won't slow down as much. No more rep, tags, events, or a bajillion smileys.

I went ahead and removed those tags. Here are my thoughts on the issue, the tag and event calender features while having humor potential aren't all that useful in regard to their intended functions. Losing these, little used, recently added functions wouldn't impact board participation or enjoyment so I wouldn't miss them and suspect most members wouldn't notice if they were gone.

As for Timmy trying to shoehorn rep into the discussion, Liet (despite failing to mention the rep system was changed to allow members in the red to comment. Which was a huge issue to him.) is right.

We've gone through every aspect of the reputation system dozens of times over and the result has always been the same, most everyone enjoys the rep system and those that don't can simply turn it off.

I don't mind the tags or the events.

I don't see any great harm in people being able to add events to the calendar. I've got a whole list of silly holidays sitting on this hard drive. I might add a few to the calendar just for fun if the mood strikes me.

I don't see any great harm in the tags, either, although I think they probably won't be very useful, what with the average thread being 99.9% text anyway and the search system in place. Actually, I guess they might be handy if the Search function ever goes down for a period of time. I dunno. Just remember: It's only trolling or flaming if someone notices it, and if someone notices it they can always let a mod know.

We get people throwing around accusations of pedophilia and lynching in posts themselves.

The problem is, Wordforge really isn't a great forum to post in from work. It has always been this way.

Personally, I like being able to tag things for future reference.

As for rep, I'd guess 90% of the people here are in favor of keeping it exactly the way it is. Not sure why Timmy wants it changed, except because of rep whining purposes.

Nothing to do with rep whining, I've wanted it removed for years since it usually causes more trouble than it's worth whether it's creating unnecessary drama threads, driving posters off the board, or slowing the board down to a halt.

WF thrives on drama threads. Look at the number of replies to a drama thread vs other threads.

Name one poster driven off the board because of rep.

Prove rep slows the board down.

And your first two reasons certainly sound like :repwhine:.

POTN, KIRK1ADM. Probably others that I can't recall.

The tech staff has said so in the past. When using rep, it certainly is the laggiest of the board features.

POTN was driven off because he was blind, not because of rep. We blinded him.

I find that if the board is slow, the rep system is slow too. Big surprise there. Are you expecting rep to be fast while at the same time the board is lagging? Good luck with that.

I've heard that POTN left because of rep war. Some of his forum friends say this is not the case, and he quit because of an eye problem. Which is it? Either he chickened out of a rep war, in which case you guys CAN blame rep war, or he's the brave 'rep warrior' that just happened to have a health problem at the worst possible time. In which case, rep had nothing to do with it. You can't have it both ways.

I really don't know the reason why KIRK left. And I'm surprised you do. Can you prove this? Have you gone and asked him?

Oh, ok, great. I guess we'll just have to take your word for it. :dayton:

    Reading comprehension is your friend.

No proof at the moment, but if you still want it in about a week I can give some to you. Just need to remind me.

    Ok, thanks.

"Silly Holidays" are fine, but it's not being used for "silly holidays." It's more along the lines of "apostles dog might die again" or "mewa is a homo."

It's a way to freely troll people outside the Red and Gray Rooms.

Do you post from work? Do you think they'd approve of your reading about "incest" and "nigger lynching?"

Liet wasn't driven off, he just decided that he needed to be offended by the shitstorm surrounding the rep jihad on Zenow.

    So this

was really code for "I'm leaving because of the evil rep warriors"?

Ergo, he left because of the rep system.

He didn't lose his cool until he started getting negged.

Don't play innocent. It's transparent and tiresome.

So treat it the same as you would trolling in the Help Desk or Green Room or whatever.

    No.
I'd think we wouldn't approve of posters potentially getting other posters in trouble over such things. :bergman:
