I realize that this is a confusing time for you right now. Especially being raised in the South with it's Puritan streak it's especially hard. Your body is going through all these changes, your self conscience about it, your hormones are raging, you are excited by the image of nice men and women and your repressed sexuality doesn't know how to deal it...

I get it. But this is just a phase. In a few years it'll all calm down and you'll learn that a body is just a body, even if it's naked.

Anyone else struck by the irony of a guy who's always screaming that we need "moar freedom" is terrified by kids seeing adults naked? Why don't we treat arguments against public nudity the same way we treat arguments opposing legalization of marijuana? You know, saying that we should be able to prove harm before we ban something. Have there been cases of kids being sexuality assaulted by naked adults at like the events Anc posted pics from? I dunno, but I do know that a lot of kids have been sexually assaulted by Catholic priests, and I don't see anyone calling for us to shut down the Catholic Church in the US, or even a whole lot of priests being jailed for such crimes, even in though in some cities the number of victims have been in the thousands.

You're comparing apples and oranges. The kids at the festivals/parades didn't just happen to show up at them or blindly wander into one. They are there with their parents, who are fully aware, or most likely aware what they and their children will encounter. What you're trying to compare to, a bus stop where someone wanders up naked isn't a situation you expect to encounter. It's like saying a parent can't decide if they will allow their kid to watch an R rated movie, opposed to having someone randomly walk up to a child and show them a porn clip.

First off it's creepy, second, people have gone to jail for way, way less, third, I don't think children should be exposed to that. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't want to explain why there's a white man dressed as an Indian with a rainbow flag and a cod piece over his junk.

It's not a question of morality or a deflection like, "but Catholic priests are dangerous", it's a question of decency.

So are public displays of affection by Ted Cruz, but I don't think that it should be illegal for him to do them.

And people have not gone to jail for doing things far worse, like murder. This isn't an argument in favor of anything at all.

And in places like Saudi Arabia, it's considered indecent for a woman to walk outside of the house wearing anything less than a garbage bag over their whole body. A little more than 100 years ago it was considered "indecent" for a woman to ride a bicycle. "Decency" is a vague standard which varies from place to place, and changes over time. And while our definition of "harm" has changed over the years (after all, it used to be perfectly legal to beat one's wife), but harm can be objectively proven, and if you can provide evidence of harm at seeing a naked person in public, then I'll agree there should be laws against it, if not then don't expect me support you on this issue just because you find it creepy.

If there's no harm, then why have public nudity laws?

One could say the same about laws against marijuana, or the obscenity laws which were enacted in the 19th Century and repealed during the latter part of the 20th Century.

Not what I said at all. I asked for a demonstration of harm, and you've failed to provide one. Doesn't mean that there isn't harm being done, only that you've failed to prove it. How do you feel about women exposing themselves to children (it certainly happens)? Are you okay with that? How about women breastfeeding in public? Is that okay, or is there something wrong with that?

As I said up thread, they should be arrested for indecent exposure.

Breastfeeding is different, but generally, I believe you should find a bathroom or private spot to do it.
