Foreigner??? that's a big mac when Rush is a 16oz Bison burger. Your ELO comparison is more relevant... I find them to disco era though. Same with the supertramp citation later on, great band, but a different school/era of music. Rush manages to stay guitar rock without getting arty. AC/DC... hard... sorry bro, but I listen to motorhead to mellow out.
That all goes back to what you define as "classic rock" though, eh? That's pretty much the only sort of music station I listen to and all the music I mentioned are staples on "classic rock" stations. If an individual has a more narrow definition it's obviously going to skew the discussion for them.
Foreigner had many great singles until they completely ran out of steam. A great singer didn't hurt! Great production was another plus. Why does much 70's music sound so damn good? Regardless of who are our favorites, the sound quality + production are top-notch for the most part. The mind boggles.....
Here’s the deal. Nobody cares if the boys are back in town taking care of business with Black Betty. Nobody cares if Bob Seger took the money and ran back to sweet home Alabammy. Now whether or not your mind is for rent, to any god or government? That’s important.
I'd have figured you'd give a little room for: [YT="Doesn't this speak to your experience, at least a little bit?"]M9CWJa9yK7I[/YT]
It was important that Jesus, he knows me and he knows my wife, and knew I was going to be a blue collar man. What wasn't important was that Quinn the Eskimo came on Eilieen when she she-boped.
Quinn The Eskimo has some weird, weird lyrics! My neighbor has a cat named Quinn.....it's crippled from the waist down.
YES! Finally I found the Pearl Jam lyrics so I can decode their warnings of Armaggedon! http://www.kissthisguy.com/246songsof-Pearl-Jam.htm
The greatest Classic Rock Song ever is Jan Wayne, covering Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart." Discuss.

We have "classic alternative" up here. That can mean anything from public image limited to petshop boys. Broadest appeal to an age demographic ELO was played at roller rinks, Rush was played in the parking lot of the roller rink.
I hate China Grove! "Sherrif and his buddies with the Samurai sword....." NEWSFLASH! Samurais are from JAPAN! My other musical rant is Outkast "Hey yah". "Shake it like a Polaroid picture". You DO NOT shake a Polaroid picture or it comes out all fucked up! The directions clearly state to hold it still while it developes. You can't wait a minute? You're already saving time by not taking the film to the photo lab.

Just a note about the Lynyrd Skynyrd video on the first page. This performance occured on August 21, 1976, at the Knebworth Fair, near Hertfordshire, England. On October 20, 1977, an airplane carrying Lynyrd Skynyrd from Greenville, South Carolina, to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, crashed near Gillsburg, Mississippi. Six people died in the crash, including three of the performers in the video: Ronnie Van Zant - The lead singer, left a wife and two daughters. Steve Gaines - The lead guitarist in the white shirt, left a wife and a daughter. Cassie Gaines - The girl in the middle, was Steve Gaines' sister. Every member of the band suffered serious injuries. In 1987, the band reformed, with Ronnie Van Zant's younger brother, Johnnie, as the lead singer. In 2006, the pre-crash Lynyrd Skynyrd were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
If I remember right, Skynyrd was on schedule to headline at Madison Square Garden if the crash hadn't occured. Talk about bad timing....their dream went down in flames. But it is mighty freaky that their last album "Street Survivors" had them all walking through flames. :IMHO!:
I shot several Skynyrd shows at my freelance concert gig. At one of them, their original bass player was wearing one of those "skeleton suits" like John Entwistle from The Who used to wear. He died just a short time (no more than a couple of weeks, IIRC) after that concert.
Odd considering Pearl Jam had more of a classic rock sound than other popular early 90s groups at the time. As for Tom Sawyer, good song but I've always favoured YYZ a little more. Also of note from the Moving Pictures album is Lifeson's solo in The Camera Eye. I think it's his best. It's clear from the thread most of you are a bunch of old farts.
