I wouldn't imagine a tornado would actually damage a mall much anyway. Well, it could do a lot of cosmetic damage and maybe smash a lot of windows, but structurally most malls are of the "steel and concrete building" variety which is not particularly vulnerable to wind damage.
The Tupelo event was really pretty minor. My friend is just kinda obsessive about severe weather. From what I've seen it wrecked one of the buildings at the Furniture market (which is not a furniture store but a sort of "convention center" that hosts a big furniture industry trade show annually and other less important stuff the rest of the year. And also the aforementioned tractor supply place. Other than that, a few trees, a few roofs damaged, some boats tossed around at a marine store. Not really much to it as tornado's go. Certainly not like the front that just passed through here that reportedly did a good bit of damage back in Oklahoma and Kansas. We were under a warning about half an hour ago but nothing came of it that i know of. Hawk is at work though and has probably pulled out some of what little hair he has left.
Actually, most malls are tiltwall, where they pour the wall formed on the ground and stand it up. Yes, they will come apart rather quickly if the roof is compromised.
Tornadoes here in Georgia last night/today too. Some town near Atlanta got hit. I'm doing research now. What a Mother's Day gift. WE need to take away that calendar from Mother Nature!
shep--I dont know if obsessive is the right word or not--but it will definately make me a tad bit nervous
