[yt="Cass is very pleased"]I0WNPb8R-40[/yt] Dear God, I'll have to create a TBBS account to just watch the whining This is indeed not your daddy's Star Trek. But it could definitely breathe new life into a franchise that hasn't developed much new in 20 years. This is Trek for a new generation, and from the looks of it, I like it. Better quality should be available tomorrow or so.
Sorry, didn't see it was already posted in the other thread. Mod slaves, close this. Or don't. But DO SOMETHING
Oh, the flamewars in that forum will be glorious! I remember when Enterprise came out and people were ripping into each other. The Enterprise flamewars eclipsed all the previous feuds (Niners vs. Voyagers, Picard fans vs. Kirk fans, etc.) No doubt this will set a new high.
lol I think this movie is gonna suck. It'll still get my 8 bucks, though. At the very least it'll be trolling material.
Yeah, that (along with the bad dye job on JTK as he's driving the thing) are my WTF moments. That car would be, what 200 years old, at that point? Or is it something he whipped out of a replicator (which, depending upon who you talk to, didn't exist at that point in the Trekverse)? If Kirk's one the colony world at this point, then WTF is a 'Vette doing all the way out there?
^^^ That's like saying that there's no such thing as a horse and buggie in our day. Of course they are extremely rare, but they are still around. What troubles me more is the fact that I've spent a great deal of time in Iowa and never once have I run across a cliff like the one in that trailer...
Yes, but how many people do you know let teenagers play with 200 year old collectables? Or did the brash young Kirk steal it? (And he apparently only had the thing up to 90, she'd do 130 easy.) Yes, but they're keeping some elements of the original and scrapping others. At this point in time, we don't know what all they're keeping and what all they're scrapping. We know that Kirk's uncle is in the cast, so it would appear that they're keeping at least some of the canonical aspects of his childhood intact.
I assume technology that advanced can recreate 200 year old technology about as easily as Forbin puts together a model even without replicators. I further assume there will be plenty of hobbiest who have them - even on other human colonies in much the same way that some hunters in the 21st century enjoy hunting with "primitive weapons". As for the cliff - I don't think we have to be married to the idea Kirk spent his entire youth in Iowa, especially given his dad was a Starfleet officer. Of all the disturbing things I've learned in the past week, these two don't even register.
That trailer makes me all tingly. I got worried that I was watching a trailer of Nemesis at the beginning, though, and was expecting the car to launch off the cliff and land in a shuttle.
The Corvette sequence appears to be on Earth. Look closely...it appears to be a QUARRY. And a gigantic one at that. Hovercop = Future Guy = Captain Archer!
It's the Borg. And they've done the same thing to Des Moines as they did to the New Providence colony in "The Best of Both Worlds Part I".
Yes, but young daredevils are not known for getting their kicks from taking those out for a ride to the nearest Dr Who set, or any other quarry.
