Did the Ukraine attack Russia via means of the Crimea? Did Russia then take the Crimea to prevent that sort of thing happening again? It seems to me that the answer is no, and so there isn't any reasonable correspondence between the two issues.

There is no peace process with Syria. Never has been. Hell, there hasn't been any real peace process at all for over a decade and the last honest attempt was 20 years ago under Clinton. It is worth remember that every time it has always been Arabs who have always refused peace largely because they believe if they just keep holding put they can eventually destroy Israel.

Given these undeniable truths I find it both just and practical that Arabs pay a very real price for their refusal to make peace as they are the sole roadblock to peace and always have been. Like the Nazis after WW2 they deserve absolutely nothing.

Yeah. The pattern is that when you're surrounded on all sides by people who want to see you wiped off the face of the earth, you have a lot of conflicts.

The fact that the Golan Heights weren't given to Israel to begin with is weird. Whoever drew up the borders either was completely ignorant of the reality of them being an ideal artillery location or they didn't care. I never saw anything wrong with the Israelis occupying it. They'd be stupid notto do that and stupid they ain't. In practical terms I don't see any real difference between "occupying" and "annexing" that territory. Either way, we can assume that the IDF will do what's necessary to keep Syria or anyone else from using that location to take pot shots into Israel. The problem I do have is that Trump has basically intervened into a foreign election by giving up something Israel has desperately wanted for nothing in return. Yes, we should be friends with Israel, but simply giving them (or any other ally) whatever they want is not with nothing in return is not always going to be in our best interests.

We tend to think of the real borders of original Israel as being the pre Six Day War border. But when Israel was first established and war broke out, Israel actually was only given about half the territory is had from 1949 or so until 1967. In other words Israel doubled its size during its War of Independence where if fought well, everybody bordering it or in the case of Iraqi troops, not bordering it.

The number who support full annexation of the West Bank with no political recognition of the Palestinians who live there is worrying.

Israel is completely undefendable without the control of the West Bank. Any look at a map will show you that. Israel's largest cities, far and away their greatest concentrations of population and economy are in that narrow strip between the West Bank and the sea coast. It would be like the U.S. trying to defend Washington D.C. while giving a hostile nation control of Maryland.
