E-verify was no doubt developed & tested by office/computer nerds/government folks (no offense to anyone working these jobs) and it seemed foolproof to their inner circle of fellow office/computer nerds/government folks who HAVE NEVER NEEDED TO DRUM UP PHONY PAPERWORK CREATED BY CRIMINALS because if they did, they wouldn't have the jobs they do in the first place! You want catch a desperate person with nothing to lose, you have to think like a desperate person with nothing to lose.
It's the left hand (Ned Flanders) underestimating the right hand (Moe Szyslack) on a very large scale. And of course they are SHOCKED when their gazillion dollar technology is FUBAR by people without a GED.

This is why I got super-duper a few years ago when the DMV changed their policies and my five (count 'em FIVE) picture ID cards and a DD-214 (military discharge with my Social Security number all over that bitch!) were not enough to renew my driver's license. I needed to go down to the Social Security office to apply for a Social Security card. And what documents did the Social Security office need to see? Wait for it.....the same documents the DMV used to accept!

And now the best part - the Social Security card doesn't even have my picture nor a watermark! It is the cheapest and easiest document to reproduce BAR NONE of all my documents in my wallet. What......the......holy.....fuck is wrong with this picture?

Don't know if it's still the case but at one point the basic document you required here to qualify for a passport, driving licence or police check and pretty much any secondary form of ID was a birth certificate.

You could obtain one of those by ringing a phone line, giving your name and date of birth then asking for it to be forwarded to your home address (which you would supply them with during the call).

Amazingly some ruthless people saw a loophole in this seemingly foolproof system....
